The better graphics get the worse some of these tekken designs are looking.

it looks better in the arcade.

Zhou is right, they do look a lot better in the arcade. They are much smoother and less blurred then these shots. I think I read that T6:BR has even more of a graphical improvement over T6.

I thing I don't like about Tekken is they really aren't even trying to evolve the game at all. But still, it's pretty fun and solid fight on the home consoles. If they give me endings for 40 characters I'm happy enough.

From Tekken 5 they've greatly improved the juggling system. Basically, now its easier than ever to juggle (keep the opponent in the air by timing your combos right). However this means that its easier for pros to lay the smack down on players with a few well timed combos.

And afaik, they wearn't really aiming for evolution, rather improvement on T5:DR. Such as fixing balance issues, new character moves and animations and the such.

Dont let the screenshots fool you, I suggest going to the local arcades and having a go (or at least watch some pros). It may cost $2/game but its pretty worth it. I mean, until last night, I was kinda *MEH* on the wholy street fighter IV thing based on what screenshots I had seen and having played the old SF's on sega/snes/ps1... Till I saw some guy playing as Chun Li totally kicking the AI's arse. SFIV has now moved up to 2nd place on the "MUST BUY" list of mine. I'll be skipping the CE crap and the fighting sticks though mind you icon_wink.gif

Same old, same old, IMO.
In this generation of consoles why oh why don't fighting games use more interesting terrains (like DOA) rather than boring flat arenas?
I have been asking the same question ever since DOA came out on PS2 (that's last gen for god sake)!

I've seen the game running in the arcades, the backgrounds are nice but the character models leave a bit to be desired. More juggling = bad IMO.

Wow I'm pretty disappointed with those screens. It looks amazing in the arcade, definitely much smoother. Here are some screens for the new arcade update http://www.tekken-official.jp/tk6br/ss.html

I don't mind if they don't bring anything new to the table with this release. The character roster is massive, and it just looks like it is going to be heaps of fun.

Tekken = My fave 3d fighter. Better than Virtua fighter cuz it uses more buttons. Play's pretty much the same and has cooler chacters, not to mention a whole bunch more. Also the attention to detail is better than any other 3d fighter except Soul Calibur but that's basically the weapons based equivalent of Tekken with ringouts.

Also Heihachi is one of the coolest gaming characters EVER! Tekken 5 and on are definately the best versions so looking foward to 6. We need more stages like DOA though, enough single tiered crap.

I dont understand why people criticise this 'lack' of evolution with tekken 6..... I mean SF4 seems even more so like its refusing to evolve and that isnt scrutinised

Tekken is my 2nd favouritre 3D fighter, behind soul Calibur. THese 2 games are, by the way, not remotely alike, atleast in terms of gameplay. Tekken is about "Who can launch their opponent and juggle first?" while Soulcalibur is more about timing, and parrying your opponents attacks. Juggling is nowhere near as prevalent in Soulcalibur, but that's all tekken is about.

I've always loved Tekken because of their endings. I hope this one doesn't change that, if anything this is like an interactive american soap only they beat the crap out of each other.

No actually, both games can be played either way, it really depends on the character's you choose.

You're saying Soulcalibur is more about timing? Lol! Other than Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur would be the biggest button masher of them all. It's not about timing at all, it's about using the 8 way directional movement more than anything else because a lot of the time a long weapon character will just own you with button mashing unless you can come around from the side. It's also about alternating attacks so that they become manual strings, something which tekken has also aswell as canned strings.

I can own in Soul Calibur with Sophitia cuz she's a juggle ****. ALmost any good fighting game will allow you to juggle, it's just some are harder to do than others but most fighting games it's about juggling, it's where attacks are unbloackable so it's one of your only opportunities at whittling an opponents health down. If you're not juggling in Soul Calibur....well then you're still got a lot to learn.

Tekken also has parry's and counters.

Well, maybe it's just the way me and my mates just happen to play.

Well after Tekken 4 (which was pretty terrible), I think Namco just decided to release the same game over and over with a facelift. It's certainly not a BAD thing but for me anyway, games like SC, VF, SF and DOA through each iteration feel a lot more FRESH.

Tekken has always felt the least natural to be as a fighting fan.

Agreed. Tekken 6 is more about parrys and counters than any other imo. Button mashing wise, if you use Lilly/Christie in the arcade you can button mash like crazy and manage to pull off some pretty cool ****. Unlike SF4 and KOF which require half rotations and Z inputs etc etc. In other words, buton mashing wise, tekken 5/6/ SCIV are your friends.

Tekken 6 also has multi tier levels. Not all of them though. One level you can hit your opponent through a wall, and the other one through the floor. Not sure about the others.

Got interested in this a few weeks ago, went down to "local arcade" (the Beachouse... ugh... icon_razz.gif) and had a poor go at it. Looks lovely as, and playing Tekken 5 at a freinds house got me interested.

What surprises me is how hard it can be. It took me around a good 45 minutes on VERY EASY to go though one characters main story on Tekken 5 (it said total time 19 minutes, but the continuing takes a while). And I didn't even get to the third fight on the Arcade machine.

EDIT: It's probably my poor skills though. icon_lol.gif

Tekken is definitely a popular game for juggle players, but I've gotta say I've been playing since Tekken 2 and still haven't really felt the need to learn juggles (other than a couple of short ones). For me it's all about counters, side throws and a mix of single big hits and funny moves (though I used to enjoy King's multipart throws and Lei's different stances too).

Although it has evolved a bit, every version really does "feel just like Tekken again"... but for me that's exactly what keeps me coming back. The Tekken series is the most satisfying for me to play. Other ones might look nicer, have more variety, more depth in controls or whatever... but for me Tekken is the only hand-to-hand fighter I've played that actually feels like there's some satisfying impact when landing a move. The others just feel a bit too light for me... more like slapping and pushing your opponents around rather than actually punching their faces in. ..maybe it's just the chunkier sound effects and little explosion effects?
Whatever it is, Tekken is the only one that makes me go "ouch!" when I see or play it.

i am happy to tekken 6 for some improvements of graphics, specially the effects. it is very challenging for me and i'll try it in arcade machines.
