According to Codemasters, DiRT 2 will be powered by the third generation EGO Engine, which will bring an improved car-handling physics system and new damage effects. On the visual front, its been touted cars and tracks will be "twice as detailed as those seen in Race Driver: GRID". As expected, the game will also feature officially licensed rally and off-road vehicles, including the Group N Subaru which was featured in the original DiRT. Additionally, there will be competitive online multiplayer support, though it's currently unclear if this will be featured in the PSP, Nintendo DS and Wii versions.
"Colin McRae was all about the speed, the excitement and the entertainment of rally driving. Even when we first worked with him over ten years ago, he captured a freedom and a spirit that enthralled rally fans.” said Gavin Raeburn, Senior Executive Producer at Codemasters Studios. “Later his showmanship shone through in events such as the X-games, the Dakar Rally and the Race of Champions. He could do things with a car that no one else would and that’s where we’re taking the series with new events at the extreme edge of rally and autosport. It will be a great tribute to an incredible champion.”
The decision to continue the Colin McRae games franchise was jointly decided by Codemasters and McRae's family. We'll report back when more information on DiRT 2 is available. Until then, you can check out three 'target visuals' in the media panel.
