MGS4 for Xbox 360 rumour resurfaces

360 News | Konami PR guy says that they are looking into it.
Metal Gear Solid 4 has long been rumoured to be moving to the Xbox 360, despite the seemingly constant quashes from Konami.

However, recent comments from Yoshitaka Arai, a PR type person over at Konami, has said that the Snake may be sneaking over onto Microsoft's big white box after all.

"The worldwide demand for an Xbox 360 version (of Metal Gear Solid 4) is quite high, and it is something we are currently looking in to," said Arai to Morningstar (via Kotaku).

So that settles that then. Or not.

Metal Gear Solid 4 came out for the PlayStation 3 in June of this year, and is (apparently) the final chapter in the tale of Solid Snake. It's pretty damn good, too.

If I had to guess I would say that when the inevitable Substance-ised version of MGS4 comes out it will be on PS3 and 360. Makes a lot of sense.

What Toastfarmer just said. I honestly wouldn't be surprised. Konami get more money, and more people get to enjoy the game. Exclusives are a thing of the past in my opinion.

link to the review is broken - has two http's

I reckon it'll defs get a port sometime soonish.

Then what's the use of there being multiple consoles? And owning all 3?

if it was released for 360, it'd have to be moderately edited then, with all the playstation displays and references

First party exclusives like the one in your sig/avatar icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah I guess, but that wouldn't be that many, I wouldn't think.

Thats right. Like in Ninja Gaiden when it was ported to the PS3 as Sigma. The health regenerating Xbox was replaced by something else (forgetten what it really was).

So in MGS4 they can do the same. For example whilst controlling the MK2 just replace the PS3 controller with a 360 one.

MGS4 on the 360 is possible. Plus it would most likely sell well.

Like bobboblaw said, exclusives are a good part of it. And there's more of them than you might think. Most of my favourite games are exclusives, or at least were for a year or more.

The 360 has had good exclusives from day one. The PS3 recently has had a great lineup of them too. And the only games worth playing on the Wii are exclusives. You rarely suffer from gaming "droughts" where one system in particular is falling short on new releases. You know you can always get the best version of a title if it is cross-platform.

I would laugh so hard if this happens.

really? i bought GRAW, pgr3 and perfect dark at launch, and they were horrible. i didn't touch my 360 until dead rising and gears of war came out. i admit 360 has better exclusives at the moment, but don't sugar coat it, it took a while for 360 to get going with exclusives, and its taking longer for the playstation 3.

Though a lot of people will be pretty pissed with exclusives like mgs 4 going to other consoles, and it may hurt sony/ms/nintendo (mainly sony at this point) in the next gen of consoles.
Say someone bought decided on getting one console, and chose playstation 3, expecting games that they were told that were going to be exclusive to the system and future new exclusives coming out. If this person bought it at launch, $999 was paid for the console, waited a year after the 360 came out to get it (a year he could've spent playing new games and get some problem with the 360..i know i did), and another year for a great exclusive to come out (MGS4). And now to be told that it'd come out on 360 anyway? if i were a one console man i'd certainly be pissed off.
Back to my original point of how this *may* hurt the console manufacturers? well if this one-console-buying person isn't a dumbass, he/she will learn from the experience, and when buying the next gen console, will be more cautious and more inclined to switch to another manufacturer.
(this is a very simple hypothetical, i know i'm not taking into account ps3s blu-ray etc, but i kept it simple to make my point)

Each system still has solid (no pun intended) exclusives. 360: Halo, Gears of War, Forza. Sony: Little Big Planet, Resistence, Gran Turismo - to name a few. Anything else is from third party developers and is fair game. This can only be good news for everybody, Konami and gamers alike. Bring it on!

Well maybe not day one, but I think it got underway pretty quick.

Hmmm. I'm edging closer to buying a PS3... this news just confuses the matter dammit.

If you are interested in playing Little Big Planet, God of War 3, Resistence 2, Killzone 2, Grand Turismo 5 and whatever Team Ico come out with soon (hopefully), then you should still get a PS3 as you'll never see these titles anywhere else. Just as you'll never see Halo, Gears of War and Fable on PS3. Probably! icon_smile.gif

as someone who wanted a ps3 primarily for mgs4 and ff13, im not finding many reasons to get one over a 360 anymore, that and most of my friends have 360's, and the 360 is cheaper. what to do what to do. i guess ill see how this one plays out.

this pretty much sums it up for me.

Quote
Zero significance

"It's of almost zero significance," says Dawkins. "Anyone who's likely to get upset will have finished MGS4 months ago.

"The only exclusives from here on in will be first party, and the good news for PS3 owners who find this sort of thing disturbing is that Sony's recent output exceeds Microsoft's in terms of diversity and quality, with Little Big Planet a great recent example."

TechRadar has spoken to a Konami rep in the UK, who tells us that the company has no plans right now to release MGS4 on any format other than PlayStation 3.

The quote was wrong. The quote was translated wrong to "we are considering Metal Gear Solid 4 for Xbox 360", when the quote was infact "in the future Konami will pursue a multiplatform strategy". So perhaps Metal Gear Solid 5 will be on Xbox.

Even if it had been true - good for Xbox 360 users.

Anyone who says having a game ported to the other console is a bad thing is just plain WRONG. More sales for the company in addition to more people being able to play it without paying $700+ for a new console and accessories. Win, win win. icon_razz.gif

I wouldn't be fussed too much if it went to X360, but didnt Kojima said somewhere that MGS4 was like already pushing the Blu Ray format to its capacity limits and it was close to 50Gb? After playing the game you see where it all went, but if this is true, does that mean it'll ship on like 6 DVDs? That's a lot of disc swapping! I know people will say there have been other RPGs with multiple discs, but in those you are guaranteed 10 or so hours of gameplay at least before swapping, with MGS4 its not inconceivable that you'd have to swap 2-3 times in 1 marathon play!

Well you'd probbably get a good 10 hours of cutscenes before you swap icon_razz.gif

A lot of the size on the blu-ray went into it having uncompressed sound didn't it? To the point were they actully cut stuff out of the game just so they could keep the uncompressed sound. I'm sure if Kojima took the rod out of his arse and let them compress the sound it would fit onto a couple of discs much easier.

Considering microsoft are looking into the blu-ray area, maybe the game will be released on blu-ray as well. But titles nowadays are just console jumping all over the place, except probably nintendo. We as consumers are getting less and less quality, it seems from the rush to release games on all consoles to make more money. I will laugh on the day mario goes cross platform...

Less and Less quality? Far cry, Fable, Dead Space, Fallout, Saints Row, Mirrors Edge, Bioshock PS3, all in what, the next 2 or 3 months? And I'm pretty sure I'm forgeting some there.

Were is this lack of quality? I think it's looking pretty damm good personly
