TGS 2008: Tekken 6 coming to 360

360 News | Launching simultaneously with the PS3 version.
Microsoft has announced that Namco fighter Tekken 6 will be launching simultaneously on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next year.

John Schappert, boss of Live at Microsoft, made the announcement during the company's Tokyo Game Show press conference earlier today.

The game will build on elements introduced to the series in Tekken 5, and the downloadable Dark Resurrection. The console version will also receive the updates that were seen in the Japanese arcade game update, Bloodline Rebellion, including new characters - bringing the total number to over 40 - and other various tweaks.

Tekken 6 is due for a release in Q3 of 2009.

How unsurprising...

The teaser said Fall 2009...does that mean a whole more year for console releases?

Gotta remember when it's spring here; it's fall/autumn in the US; so maybe a world-wide release. In any case I would like to see what comes, as I kinda lost interest after Tekken 3.

Tekken (III) used to be my fighter of choice. But after playing Soul Calibur IV I went back and played Tekken 5 on my PS2 again. Yech. I'd forgotten how cheap Jinpachi was!

I hope they don't !@#$% that up again.

Tekken's roster is horribly bloated now with pointlessly similar characters. I wish they'd trim it - starting with those cheap capoeira-using fools - Eddie and Christie. God they suck.

Sony just can't keep exclusives this generation.

Not that I really care because I own both consoles, it just makes it an annoying decision of what version to buy. I hope they are identical.

40 characters seems a bit much, especially if they all have carbon copy fighting moves. We'll see I guess.

It's hard to see whether a Company would Choose between Money and Loyalty.

Wasn't really looking out for this announcement, but wasn't really surprised by it either.

The XBox360 version is probably the reason for why it's taken so long to appear on PS3.

I played this in Tokyo a while back - seemed pretty sweet, although the characters' faces have gotten pretty bloody tiny in the little selection boxes now, to pack 'em all in.

The network play in the arcade was my favourite feature. Paul Phoenix plays just about the same as he always has.

Its not just Sony dude. Need i remind you of the many 360 "exclusives" that have, and are being ported to the PS3 as well? BioShock for one. Left 4 Dead next year. Goes both ways.

Well said. How many ''exclusives" has the 360 lost?

Fact is, the days of third party console exclusives are coming to an end. Production costs of these AAA titles are just too high to ignore another console.

Most of the exclusives like MGS4 are titles that had been in production before this console gen had begun.

Even Valve who have previously been trash talking the PS3 are now changing their stance. I can garantuee you Left 4 Dead will make it to the PS3 some time in the future.

With the success of titles like COD4, GTA4 , DMC4 etc both as awesome on the 360 and PS3, whats the point of devs keep their games on one console and depriving themselves of more sales and revenue?

Getting a PS3 or 360 is now a matter of which brand you prefer. Because tecnically speaking, they are both the same price in the long run.

PS3 you get free online gaming, in built Wifi and a Blu Ray player.

With the 360 although you need add ons to get connected, its cheaper.

So Tekken 6 will most likely be as awesome on both consoles. Maybe the superiority of the DualShock's d-pad will be one of the only issues.

I think all this trend of multi-platform release is no help to the extra developing time required for this generation consoles. And I'm a bit concerned that in an effort to get through this huge amount of manual labour work (ie. ubermillion polygons, huge environment etc), there seems to be less and less revolutionary ideas in individual games. Of course there are exceptions but that just seems to be the trend. Either I'm getting older or games just aren't as fun as they used to be.

Wow there was like no bias in that post at all. Really enjoyed reading that ^^

And I will have to agree, being in love with the Gamecube last generation I wasn't very happy that the PS2 got everything. I like the fact that this 3rd party console factor has died mostly. Now we have the war between the Hi-Defs and The Wii which I like :] I'm starting to love this generation even more as each 360/PS3 gets version exclusives as I've always liked those small minor differences that while playing the game you can just pick out and go "hey, those suckers didn't get that". I love it love it love it.
