Fable 2 CE loses goodies

360 News | Box, figure and cards gone.
The collector's edition of the upcoming Xbox 360 RPG, Fable 2, will be a bit smaller than first promised.

Gone are the five printed cards, the Hobbe figurine and the fancy-smancy box. That doesn't leave a whole lot, really.

According to a developer blog post, the change is all down to 'supply chain issues'. As you would expect, US retailers have reduced the price of the pack by USD 10, with local retailers sure to follow soon.

So, what will buyers of the collector's edition actually get? A bonus DVD, including a making of feature, and some bonus in-game content, including a few extra weapons and a bonus dungeon.

As a nice gesture, Lionhead has indicated that the art for the cards will be available to download as a PDF file, while there will be a free album of Fable 2 music available next week.

Fable 2 will be hit store shelves on the 23rd of October.

Was freakin' annoyed when i heard about this, i love me them special editions... A "Bonus DVD" isn't anything, they might as well not release a "Collectors Edition" at all, seeing as, what, 40 minutes of "Behind the Scenes" was already released on the Marketplace?

Any news of one of the Aust retailers adding theire own stuff instead?

Good Old Fable Creators....

First Co-op now the collectors edition goodies making it pretty pitiful to buy the collectors Edition

Im looking into the future and im seeing that the next thing to go will be the Colour

**News Flash** Fable 2 will be going down a very different path in there next adventure, abandoning colour and 3d graphic and implementing new state of the art Stick figure animation!!!

What a Load of BS supply chain issues my arse they have known what they are going to put in the CE for more than 4 months im sure that that is enough time to have 400 8yrs of chinese sweat shop kids making the cards and pumping out the Hobbe Figure

This game better be better than Crack because there is a very strong chance that if it is not then they are gonna have a hard time trying to make a Fable 3,4 & 5 and there will be fans looking for blood!!!

^ Christ. I knew gamers were a whingey lot filled with a sense of entitlement only matched by their ability to rage online... but really, suggesting the use of sweat shop labour just so you can have a cheaply made action figure to go with your game? *facepalm*

I think it's pretty cool that they're releasing the art and soundtrack online for those who wanted them. It isn't quite the same as it printed on some nice stock but it's a nice gesture.

Yeah, I'm rather annoyed, cause I was so keen for this CE and have had it pre orded since it was first announced. The thing that annoys me the most is no figurine......I WANTED THAT FIGURINE.

No extra content (apart from a free copy of Pub Games if you pre-order) but EB have dropped the CE price down to that of the standard copy.

From http://ebgames.com.au/Xbox/product.cfm?ID=12258:

* Fable II game disc
* Bonus DVD with new 'Making-of' Feature
* Bonus in-game content (requires Xbox LIVEĀ®)
o 'The Hall of the Dead' Dungeon
o 'The Wreckager' Legendary Cutlass Weapon
o Spartan armor and energy sword

* Contents may be subject to change

Thats not the point that i was getting at i know its a cheaply made figurine, hense the sweat shop comment. What i was trying to get at was that every week there seems to be something else not happening with this game...

Im still getting the game as i am a fan of this genre and i enjoyed Fable and Fable:TLC.

But There is what... three weeks till this game is released... one would think that it should be finished like in the next week if not already final tweaks and everything 100% to there likings.

In my opinion i think that this close to the release the amount of people that pre ordered this game are those that wanted the things they are taking out thus why its called a Collectors Edition!!! and to take it all out at the last minute is a little poor because its really got nothing that is not already available if you have your 360 on XBL anyway and its free to download where as they are going to take $10 off the top of the title so its now costs $109?? for extra content that you can't have in the normal Version for $99 but you can download for free!!! is that really legit??.

One would believe that if they announce that they are give away free S*** with the game then it was decided upon way before it was made public and to turn around 3 weeks before and say "there is a supply issue we wont be giving you this and this, but hey log on to our website and get this and that", well any Tom dick or Harry can do that and not have to buy the game! so much for a fan base that website stuff should only be available if you bought the game and inside there was a code to get the bonus material

yes i am having a rant because someone has to and im certain i wont be the last!!!

I despise special editions with more than just cosmetic additional in-game content. Grr.

I remember a time when all people cared about was the actual game! Those days are gone, it seems!

In all seriousness, if the game lives up to expectations then the lack of plastic toys will hopefully not hurt too much.

This pisses me off I like collecting figures and game art and music, you know things you will look at or listen to more than once ever, like the making of dvd :(

Has the issue with preorder codes for pub games been resolved yet, I still don't have that either.

Part of the co-op won't be available when the game first comes out. They said it was coming out shortly after the game is released.

Online co-op isn't going to be available at launch cause it isn't ready. They said it will be comming in a patch in the first couple of weeks.

certainly makes Molyneaux' "9/10" comment sound a little retarded, it's more like "7/10, but you can DL another 2/10".

it almost shows the good and the bad of online-edness.
it's good that we aren't then getting a rushed product simply because the deadline is approaching, but it's bad that they have to rely on DLC to complete the game.

Well, I went into EB in mid September, asked them if they were doing Fable 2 pre-orders, they said yes. I asked if they had the Pub Games cards as well, they said yes. So I pre-ordered there and then and got my Pub Game card that day.

$99 for, in essence, Pub Games? I wonder if, now that they only have the standard edition, they'll price match JB's usual $79 price on release...

Also: I would have bought the game anyway, same with any damn good game coming out. But i'm a sucker for bonus trinkets and the like, especially figurines.

Yes. Depending on where you preordered you should be able to just pop down and pick it up. PM me if you have any issues.

Well, following that reasoning it is $99 for nothing as the Pub Games is free with standard edition preorders too.

Price matching for a Collector's Edition will undoubtedly be done to JB's CE price which should be the same as there standard edition price. So it should be no problem to get the CE for $79.

I wonder if the box art will remain the same. The CE box art is uuuuugly, so I might switch over to the standard edition anyway.

gee the stenderd edition will be the cheapest gamr to get this gen on day one .

I'm probably going to cancel my preorder of the CE of this and transfer the funds over to a preorder of the CE of Fallout 3. I want my first CE to be a fully fledged one.

Also Charly do you think there would be any trouble cancelling my preorder at an EB store now that I've used my pub games code?
^Nah. Especially considering CE contents change is the reason behind the cancellation.

Besides, many people haven't picked up their Pub games code. You could be one of these people.

Just letting you know that you should make sure that pre-order allocations of Fallout 3 haven't been exhausted yet at your local store before going to cancel your Fable 2 CE pre-order and transferring it to get the Fallout 3 CE.

I'll make sure to check before I go Answer and if worst comes to worst and that store has already filled their pre-order allocations then I'll try some of the other EB's around the area. Then if that doesn't work I'll just preorder the regular edition.

Next we find out that they've left the game itself as DLC...

Amen to that, I hate this DLC whoring that all game companies seem to be embracing. It's like someone told them "hey, people aren't buying games as products, they want services!" So they interpret that as "Good idea! Let's charge them $100 each time they want to use the game!".

Scum.

Generally not done on a store by store basis. If the allocations are gone, then they are gone company wide. I found this out the hard way with the GTAIV Special Editions.

Essentially is gets discontinued in the system and no more orders can be made at any store.

Am I so cynical and jaded, or am I not the only one thinking "awesome, one less thing people will use as trade bait"?
