Star Wars: The Force Unleashed bargain round-up

360 News | The ability to save money is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
It’s time to choose between Light and Darkness, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be hitting store shelves first thing tomorrow morning. To celebrate the game’s launch, we’ve compiled a list of specials that will be available across Australian retailers. To start off though, we’re going to explain the full retail price of each version.

As many of you would be aware, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is available on a variety of systems. The PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii versions currently have a suggested retail price of $99.95, while the PlayStation 2 version normally costs $69.95. Moving on to handheld consoles, the Nintendo DS version will usually set you back $69.95, while the PSP version is the cheapest at $59.95.

With that out the way, Target are offering the cheapest price for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii versions at $77.95, complete with a free lightsaber toy. In case you don’t have a local store, then Big W is the second best option as they're charging only $78, while Kmart and JB Hi-Fi have a price tag of $79. Next up is the PlayStation 2 version, which is only $54.92 at Big W and $59 at Myer. For those wanting some touch screen action, the Nintendo DS version is on sale at Big W for $54.92 and $59 at JB Hi-Fi. Changing the pattern slightly, the PSP version is cheaper at JB Hi-Fi and Myer, both charging just $49. In the unlikely event that both stores give you the annoying “we haven’t received our shipment” excuse, then you can go to Target and pay $49.95, as well as receive a bonus lightsaber toy for your troubles.

For those who are having a little trouble scrounging up the money, GAME are offering a trade-in deal where you’ll get Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for FREE when you trade-in three games. Unfortunately, this deal doesn’t include the PlayStation 2 or PSP versions, and as always there’s an exclusions list you’ll need to take into account.

Before you rush out and line up at your desirable store, there are a few specific deals that some of you may be interested in. Firstly, EB Games are offering 20% off the official Star Wars: The Force Unleashed strategy guide when you buy the game from them. The guide normally retails for $29.95 (that’s $23.95 with the discount) and is designed for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii versions of the game. As we mentioned above, Target is offering a bonus lightsaber toy when you purchase the game from them. This deal is available for all versions, so if you think you’ll want to re-enact some moments from the game when friends are over, you may want to have a plastic prop at the ready. Lastly, Dick Smith stores are offering a bonus stylus lightsaber pack when you purchase the DS version, however, you’ll have to pay nearly full retail price just to get it.

For a complete list of specials please see below. All these prices will be included in this week’s Australian Gaming Bargains feature, which will be published by PALGN tomorrow afternoon.

*Please note that the Big W, Kmart and Target specials don’t officially start until this Thursday. Because of this you may have to wait until then to take advantage of their offers.

Or, if you thought the demo was as weak as a limp cod like me, you could save even MORE money and not buy it! icon_razz.gif

I suppose you wouldn't be able to get the free action figure with the JB preorder anymore...
You probably can. I work at the doncaster store. We had 7 pre-orders and 30 figures arrived.

Stores got a bulk allocation so not only available for preorders.

Or you could always just go to your local EB or GAME and just get them to price match =) saves a lot of lining up.

How do you price match with EB
Would EB do the GAME deal as well? It's annoying that there's no GAME nearby and its the only store to use my trade-in fodder...

Im not entirely sure the lightsaber is free at Target.

The most cheapest award goes to: Big W!
The $1 more award goes to: K-Mart and JB Hi-Fi!
The most expensive award goes to: GAME and EB!

And finally...

The crazy cent award goes to: Dick Smith Electronics!

preordered today at EB - getting them to price match JB - $79
Loved the demo - so have to get it -
I am looking forward to this - hope that the reviews are wrong and this is actually a great game ...

Does anyone have a recommendation of which version to get?

I own a 360 and a Wii and I am undecided on which to spend my hard earned cash on.

From what people who've played it have said, how you feel about the demo pretty much reflects how you'll feel about the full game in terms of gameplay, so if you liked that then you should be right.

GAME are actually selling it at $79 on PS3, 360 and Wii when I went in to check today.

Personally I haven't had a chance to play the demo but from what I've heard I feel like I might hold off on buying it now, I'll probably pick it up once it gets to around the $50 mark but still I can't wait to see what PALGN has to say about the final product.

i want the lightsaber stylus from DSE more then the game, those things are awesome, i wonder if i can buy them on their own
1 year ago
The demo suggests to me that it's a "Wait 'til it's under $50" kind of game. My urge to play it is not greater than my urge not to pay full price for it.

You probably can buy it separately.

The catalogue says:

"Buy any of these games and receive this basic lightsaber."

It then lists all versions of SW:TFU and puts the prices next to them. It then says "total value" which indicates that the lightsaber is free. They often use the term "Total Value" for their console bundles just to show how much people are saving.

EB's policy is that they match competitors within a certain distance of their store (I think within a 15 min radius). So, it's probably unlikely that they'll match it. You can always try though.

That's strange, their website shows the full retail price. If I get time I'll go have a look tomorrow.

Just tried my local Big W and they don't even have it in stock for launch.....pretty ordinary. Looks like its JB for me now
1 year ago
^ Big W often advertise cheap prices but rarely have the goods to back it up.

It is annoying. For price matching I don't bother with Big W.

@Spanc: True. However, the point I was making doesn't relate to just this singular instance. I very often have to disappoint people because they (Big W) just don't have the advertised items in stock. Luckily, JB usually have the item on sale too, so I can offer to pricematch them instead to avoid grumpy faces.

^ To be fair, Big W are only advertising that price for Thursday, so expecting them to have stock now at that price is a bit much.

I finished it last night and really enjoyed it, though I am a Star Wars fan and liked the demo. The demo only gives the smallest hint as to the game. Once you level up your force powers the combos are pretty satistying. The demo also puts you in the worst/blandest of the environments.

Why hasn't anyone commented on the price at Toys R Us at $79.95?
If you pre-ordered you also get $10 voucher = pre-order deposit you placed icon_wink.gif
Ciao...happy sabering all

Get it imported for a bucketload cheaper than any retail store, region free for the 360. It's beyond me why the australian games market is so freakin expensive.

Edit: Right sorry about that, my bad.

Anyways, as I was saying, http://www.play-asia.com has it for $68ish on region free x360, less if you have a coupon. I find this is good for broke-ass students like myself who can opt for the cheaper posting and wait for the goods to come. If only the aussie dollar was still strong.

Here's my affiliate link if you so choose: Affiliate Liiiink!

APologies again.

^I did that.

Though I didn't use your affiliate link icon_smile.gif
