Call of Duty: World at War beta announced

360 News | Coming in October for Xbox 360 and PC gamers.
Today, Activision issued a press release confirming plans for a Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer beta. The beta will be made available for Xbox 360 and PC, the PS3 seemingly missing out, and will be released in October.

Mark Lamia, studio head of Treyarch, says “We are excited to share a sneak peak of Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer with the community. The team has worked hard to build upon the great history and foundation of Call of Duty multiplayer and we can’t wait to go online to ramp up for our November launch.”

Xbox 360 owners looking to reserve their place as soon as possible can start by registering for a user account at the official website. Call of Duty: World at War hits Australian shelves on 12th November, 2008.

They'll never beat the Multiplayer Map making Infinity Ward makes, but the reusing of Perks from CoD4 with extra WWII-styled ones worry me- Particularly when Treyarch came up with them.

Nonetheless, I'll give it a try.

I agree with you Eyce. COD4 is still going strong online. I think many people will try out COD5 just for curiosity, but will go back to COD4 after a while.

my thinking is that because cod4 is still so popular online, thats the reason for going back to wwii, so that this an introduction to classic cod for cod4 newbies.

and hey, hasnt treyarch already proved themselves?

Not really, compared to the other Call of DUty titles the third was rather lacking, while ok for a WWII game, it just din't live up to the Call of Duty name.

In what way? Their spiderman games were good but everything else has been crap. Hopefully Web Of Shadows turns out alright, seems to have made a good buzz so far.

Niggling again, but it is not Call of Duty 5, so it shouldn't be referred to as it, it's like calling GTA: Vice City, GTA IV and San Andreas, GTA V.

Hoping to get entry into the beta, I'd like to help ensure the game plays how we would like it to when it's actually released. Intrigued to see how the Pacific Theatre works out in a Call of Duty title, and the introduction of CoD4 style additions to the older war environment.

I'm not a fan of COD3 single player, though the game was great fun online. The netcode worked for Oz too, and you couldn't say that about COD2 (worst lagging game I've played on live)

People seem to forget that COD2 was nearly unplayable in Australia, yet everything that IW makes is unquestionably wonderful...

Can't wait for the beta, and I dearly hope that us Aussies can find a way into this without the pre-order token system.

Just getting into COD4!
Never got around to getting it but recently borrowed from a mate and loving it...
Hopefully COD: WaW will be just as good... haven't usually been much of a fan of WWII shooters in the past but this is lookin sweet...
