Valve bringing Team Fortress 2 updates to X360

360 News | No freebies in here.
While PC gamers have long enjoyed the free content updates to Team Fortress 2, our console brethren have silently been sitting on their couches wondering when they'll get a share of the frequent additions to the class-based multiplayer shooter. Thankfully that is all set to change as Valve's Doug Lombardi has told Kotaku that updates will be coming to the Xbox 360 later in the year.

The update will include the two new modes - Payload and Arena (and their accompanying maps) - as well as the new weapon updates that have been released for the Heavy, Pyro and Medic classes.

Though the updates were made available for free on the PC, Valve has confirmed that the console DLC model is forcing the company to charge users for additional content for the Xbox 360 release. This has also been cited as the reason for why the console editions of the title have endured almost a year with no additional content, as Valve was keen to wait until there was a substantial amount of content to be included in the update to give gamers more value for money.

A price point is yet to be determined, though Lombardi has explained that the company hopes to sell the DLC at the lowest price possible.

While the future of Team Fortress 2 is looking bright on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 owners are still sadly left in limbo waiting to find out if and when they will be receiving the same treatment.

Can I just add that Team Fortress 2's Arena mode is quite possibly the most Un-TF2 game mode they could have chosen?

To me it doesn't even feel like TF2 when you're playing it, and it worries me that I only got the game on Tuesday and I can tell it feels "off".

I've heard differing opinions on it - I know some servers have messed with the rules to make it more "casual-friendly". Personally, I only play it if I'm feeling like a challenge, which is unusual.

The new maps are gold though, both Arena and Backwater. CP_Steel is also an excellent map and I've very glad it got recognition from Valve, imo they should be hiring that level designer.

I hate Arena. One of the reasons I enjoy TF2 is the fast paced combat. You die and respawn within a few seconds but arenas ruined that.

Dying and having to wait until the end of the round sucks but waiting until the end of the round THEN the whole next round is awful.

I still like that cart bomb mode the best, that's really fun(I forget its proper name). I hope they keep making new maps for it.

The only problem I can see people having with Arena is that it forces you to act as a team. I generally find that most people who play when I'm on have very little understanding of team work beyond "Medics heal/übercharge Heavies".

As for the Xbox 360 version, Valve should wait till half or all the classes are updated rather than "nickel and diming" people who bought The Orange Box on consoles.

M$ should be making this kind of stuff free to non- US customers as a way of compensating them for the lack of service / content / features on Live outside of the USA.

EA london should stop being noob and release DLC for ps3 as well, why they havent (apart from superhuman levels of laziness) is beyond me.

*awaits nikack's neg and rebuttal of I should have bought an xbox360 originally thus not have to complain about ps3 not getting DLC*

Microsoft... I hate you so much. I knew we'd get chsrged, I just knew it. But I was hoping that somehow Valve would be able to talk them out of it as only they can... apparantly not.

worth the little money they will charge, no doubt about it.
