Remedy gives a brief Alan Wake update

360 News | Game still in development.
A post on the official Alan Wake forums by Remedy Entertainment man, Mika Reini, has revealed that the game hasn't disappeared off the face of the Earth, and is in fact still in development.

The game was revealed during E3 2005 and dubbed as a 'psychological action thriller', that is heavily driven by story, and hence void of multiplayer. However, since then, both Microsoft and developer Remedy have been very quiet on the game.

"We feel we owe you all a small heads up, and our apologies for lack of updates," posted Reini. "Seriously, yes, we're still here and working hard on getting Alan Wake [ready] for you to enjoy.

"Sure, we've been in development for a long time and if everything had gone perfectly smoothly there probably would be a game out for you guys to play already," admitted Reini. "But designing a completely new game can be hard, and sometimes you need to take a detour to find the best route forward. We want to entertain you guys in the best possible way and our team is putting in every effort possible in order for that to happen. That is the way Remedy wants to do things. I'm sure you will enjoy Alan Wake when we're done."

Barring any other unforeseen problems, Alan Wake will be out for the PC and Xbox 360 next year.

When did they announce this?

Winnah! Very much looking forward to Alan Wake - hope it lives up to the high expectations that the trailers and tech demos left me with.

Was starting to think this one may have gone the way of the dodo.

Good to see it's still alive and kicking, however I'll be more convinced when I have some new screenies and a release date.

Yeah, only problem is, I had those high expectations back in 2005.. although I'm almost happy we haven't had a stream of constant updates surrounding the game, otherwise I would have gone mad from the constant teasing.

I never assumed it was being cancelled, it's not unusual for Remedy to keep quiet on a game's development.

Thank goodness we've had confirmation that there's still life in the development. Looking forward to (hopefully) next year.

Yeah, it's nice that they let us forget about it for periods between media releases and such while they got on with getting the game working. I just hope that the game doesn't require some kind of obscene bastard powerhouse of a PC to run well.

i was hyped up about this game back around the same time i was hyped up about gears of war 1.
interest now = 0.

Your loss then. This game will rock, and Kudos to the studio for taking the needed time to polish it up.

Plus they have no doubt been working with lighting heavily in order to really use light as a weapon - lighting tech has gone through some big updates recently.

I wonder if this game will support Real Time Ray Tracing? It would be the perfect candidate, and the developers were already talking about multicore systems years ago.

I don't mind waiting for a game, even if it's been pushed back/delayed to an insane degree like Alan Wake but the ol' problem of a title generating hype that no game can live up to is going to become more and more apparent.
I think as time goes on, people will either be more and more intrigued and excited with this game (which does look genuinely interesting and original) or they'll simply forget about it.

^ Technically it hasn't been pushed back or delayed as Remedy have never stated a release date.

I pretty much expect this from Remedy. They always go into a long arse lull and then slam you in the face with some new trailer or info, or whatever. And you can be damn sure the game will be polished to a T, these guys don't give two ****s about deadlines, hell they probably wipe their butts with whatever deadline is thrown at them all Duke Nukem style (although this will actually come out) and say, screw you, it'll be done when it's done.

ah, indeed. Good point, but the dry up of information is sure to damage the game's hype or add to the mystery of it all.
