Counter-Strike and other Valve properties could make their way onto XBLA

360 News | Studio also hints at paid DLC for console versions of TF2.
With Valve's humorous action-puzzler Portal already assured of an Xbox Live Arcade release later in the year, Valve's Marketing VP Doug Lombardi has also expressed Valve's interest in releasing more of the studio's back catalog on the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace.

In an interview with OXM UK, Lombardi stated that Valve will "certainly consider [bringing old games like Counter-Strike to XBLA]. "If you look at what we've done on Steam, we try to make all our games available and we're always reviewing the prices to keep them current. We'd love to do that, but this is our first step at doing that beyond the PC."

Lombardi also offered further news for those players who are still waiting for updates to the console version of Team Fortress 2. When asked about a possible console release of the Team Fortress 2 add-ons that PC gamers have been receiving for free over the past few months, Lombardi explained that they have not made their way onto console yet because the company was still discussing the specifics of pricing.

He explained that, "on 360 there are a few things we have to discuss such as, is it free or is it paid for? We're accumulating a lot of TF2 content for PC and at some point there'll be a sweet amount of stuff that's ready to go and large enough that if people have to pay for it [on consoles], they'll be happy."

Whether Valve's assault on the console market comes sooner or later, be rest assured that PALGN will be keeping tabs on the situation as more information comes to light.

No! Valve don't give some of PC's greatest games to consoles! counter-strike belongs on PC and this portal spin-off is just stupid. If they gave console owners (Worse just 360 & not PS3 since Wii couldn't get them)counter-strike and the original team fortress there giving some of the greatest PC mods ever and making them arcade games. This just seems wrong, they better not do it.

Hate to burst your bubble there, but CS was released on the XBOX years back. Did that just retroactively ruin it for you? icon_shifty.gif

People play TF2 on a console?

Pfft, I'd hardly describe Counter-Strike as one of the 'greatest PC games'.

CS is by no means one of the PC's greatest games.

ALSO. The portal 360 "exclusive" thingo, is not a spinoff, does not include more story, it is simply more puzzle maps, WHICH HAVE BEEN AVALIABLE FOR PC FOR A LONG TIME.

Its the proper map pack of the levels from Portal: The Flash Version.

Ah, I was unaware of that, thanks for correcting me and yeah I guess CS isn't one of the greatest PC games ever but I still reckon Valve shoudln't make it's games for consoles, TF2 on 360 and PS3 juss isn't the same as on PC since PC has steam. But who knows, after Crytek did the shift to consoles it kinda anoyed me that valve would do that too.

GET OUT

...lol

But honestly I don't see a problem with this. Who cares if awesome games like portal are ported to the 360, it just means more people get to experience their awesomeness. In terms of CS...meh it's not like anyone will actually download XBLA CS so there's nothing to be worried about. Really it's only if VALVe started making console exclusives that I will start raging. Until then keep churning out masterpieces VALVe!

I figure it's a good thing for PC gamers. When console players see how slow and clunky it is with thumb tacks on a console they'll realise how much better gaming on a PC is.

I don't like CS (I'm a DoD guy personally) but it's popularity has got to make it something of a contender for "greatest PC games".

^I doubt it'll change the mind of console users if it's slower or not using a controller compared to a keyboard and mouse, most people if not all would've experienced it on PC first, and with the amount of fps's avaliable on consoles it wouldn't be new in to what to expect about playing it with a controller.

doing this feels like valve scraping the bottom of the barrel instead of focusing their efforts on new ip's and sequals.
