E3 2008: Too Human demo released

360 News | As Microsoft confirms they'll be bringing it home again.
For the past few years, Microsoft has been running a 'Bringing It Home' campaign during E3, where the average folks at home have been able to download demos for games that are months away. In some instances, the demos are identical to the demos actually at E3.

Microsoft has confirmed that they will be doing the same thing this year -- every day they'll be uploading videos and new demos for gamers to try at home. And even though E3 doesn't actually begin until tomorrow, they've started a little early, releasing a Too Human demo on the marketplace.

The demo clocks in at 1.09GB and is available in all Xbox Live territories, except the one where Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is set (i.e. Japan). So, why not download it now and let us know your thoughts on the game in the comments section?

Demo's are the devil! Ruins a game for yourself!

^Not for me, it might redeem the game for me. im 50/50 at this stage, it all hinges on this demo.

I love when they release big E3 game demos to XBL! Hope they do a lot (or even a few!) more this year. On the download now.

A part of me just wants this game to do well just because of all the negative remarks it has been receiving

1.09GB! Ouch. This better be worth it.

Well I just finished the demo so here are my quick impressions.

Game-play is OK, i don't know if i like using the right stick for melee. Also makes the camera annoying to use, as most games you would use this stick to change the camera. Targeting with guns at range can be annoying also. Its just not THAT fun. Not like Ninja Gaiden 2 was for me recently (I haven't played GoW games)

Graphics are average imo. I was expecting really nice cut-scenes from the screenshots i had seen, but they are average and the people look pretty crap. Well the main character looks good but some of the others look like they are from Oblivion, (which was great at the time but not so good now). Frame-rate dips a bit during game-play and cut-scenes (not as bad as Mass Effect)

I guess in terms of character graphics and we have been spoilt recently with MGS4 and Mass Effect type games. This is certainly a long way behind them.

Customisation is cool though. there seems to be a heap of weapons / armour and skills in the skill tree similar to Blizzard games (WoW, Diablo) which is probably the main attraction to the game for me. The hammer rocks, smashing enemies into the air and then shooting them with laser pistols is fun. But for how long?

I'm sure some people will love this game, but its really not a must purchase for me, maybe when its under $50. I spose co-op might improve the fun, but for a Microsoft Studios game I expected a lot better. Its just NOT polished. I thought this might be an AAA title (due to MS and fan-boys talking it up so much), it just seems like a very average game.

I predict a lot of 6/10, 7/10 oh and a 3.5/10 from IGN.

Downloading as we speak, impressions will go up tomorrow night after playing it (sleep and work always get in the way of the things that actually matter).

i agree with u Ben (graphics/camera control). But im hoping all the sacrifices in graphics are for a lengthy rich loot whoring experience. i can see this game stealing alot of my time.

Played for 15 minutes this morning (and looking forward to a proper playthrough tonight after work) and first thing I noticed was the average graphics. Way to many jaggies and low resolution textures icon_sad.gif

Controls are annoying, mainly because they are so against the norm. Not having full camera control was really bad as the camera sucks and using the stick for Melee moves just felt... washy - you can just throw that stick around and hope for the best kinda thing :P

Hopefully the story/loot hunting is great as it has some great ideas it's just not very polished... at all.

Well, it feels like a dungeon crawler through and through nad I guess that might be enough for some people, but given Diablo III's annoucement you'd be kidding yourself if you thought this had any weight in the genre.

Same issues as everyone else, graphics, camera, etc. I found the melee on right stick made everything way too easy, point in the direction of the enemy and off you go wailing away. you could practically just rotate the stick around and kill everything, only stopping to pull out the guns to take on the higher hp foes.

I'm sure I'll buy it anyway, I look forward to Silicon Knights storytelling (something they have yet to get wrong) but it's definitely gone down on my list of anticipated titles.

Such a shame too, I was so looking forward to this game.

Ok, this has suddenly dropped from being a definate purchase to probably just hiring it and seeing what it's like.

I have issues with bad camera and control's in games. The story will be the only possible redemption for me, if thats bad then it's a complete non purchase for me.

It seem this game will be a disapointed, although it wasn't hugely hyped, so can't complain on that front.

well i guess i should thank Microsoft for releasing the demo and saving me $100.
very underwhelmed by the demo - in fact, i hated it. and 6 months ago this was a definite purchase for me.

i guess i was expecting a kind of cross between God of War, and Mass Effect. GoW's fantastical elements, mixed with ME's sci-fi elements. (tbh - the little amount of plot we see in the demo almost reminds me of the lore behind the imperium in Warhammer 40K) but while the start of this is there, the gameplay SERIOUSLY lets it down.

the right-stick melee thing was interesting to begin with, but it's limitations are very quickly noticeable. aside from the clumsy camera (i mean seriously, this is Playstation 1 era camera control when we can only centre the camera, instead of full control) having to juggle using the attack stick, and things like the jump and dodge buttons is incredibly "bitsy".

i suppose i get why they've tried something new.
it's a guns and melee action game and they're trying to break away from the "Devil May Cry Clone" criticisms, but i simply don't think it works.

Ben says this won't be a sale from him until it's under $50 - i don't think i'd even spend that much on it unless the controls are seriously overhauled (or at least customisable).

Fail!

Sorry, but this is awful... same issues as everyone else. As ppjim3 said, right thumbstick for melee is indeed "washy". I can't think of a better term to describe the combat in general. 15 minutes of combat and it was already getting repetitive. Oh look! Another wave of enemies that I had no fun whatsoever mowing down.

Cut scenes nasty, characters unappealing. There's a moment where a female NPC talks about her devotion to you, but it was an awful moment. Poorly animated, badly scripted, and both characters just seemed so immediately unlikeable.

Character animations also seemed a little wooden... particularly noticeable on your characters run animation. Disconcerting.

I feel sorry for Silicon Knights. Unless there's something in the big picture that I can't see that can redeem Too Human... the future is not gonna be pretty.

actually i meant to mention the voice acting - it sucked. like really bad. the scripting was pretty passable for the type of game it is, but yeah the acting was pretty bad, and the animations wooden.
perhaps we've been spoilt recently with games like GTA4 and Mass Effect, but this was pretty dodgy by comparison. almost painful.

but even so, if the gameplay had been good, i probably could've forgiven this because the premise has me intrigued. but with bad gameplay and bad implementation of the plot, so far the game isn't offering me much reason to buy it.

and yeah, being Silicon Knights - who i loved for Eternal Darkness and MGS: The Twin Snakes - i expected so much more.

Hrmmm, was a must buy/miss demo for me, but now with all the negs it's getting I think I will download the demo and check it out. May be a stinker.

Downloaded and play through the level. SOOOOO glad I did because I liked it and this bar a stream really negative reviews this is a buy for me.

Combat will take time to get used too and I do think it will be deep and rewarding. I can see why people instantly hate it but it's different and I think will work with time. The camera wasn't bad. It's quite similar to the camera in Ninja Gaiden 2, so I don't really have a problem with it. I think in the heat of battle it will become a non-issue.

I'm happy with the graphics (although they look a bit 1st 360 gen) and the overall style. I like the cyber-punk kind of theme.

Voice acting and script? Come on guys, it was MUCH better then a lot going around, i.e. almost all Capcom games. This isn't Mass Effect but it's not the worst I've seen. I didn't have a problem with the voice acting at all. Although Baldur's walking animation is quite strange.

However, I enjoyed the demo and look forward to sinking my teeth into the retail version. Damn you all for making me play the demo and doubt it!

^Good on you for not letting us sway your thoughts anyway, I hope you do enjoy it.

I'm downloading this now. I'm really hoping the retail version smooths out whatever issues it has because I want this game to succeed, I just feel kind of sorry for the development hell it's endured. There was an article in Hyper a while back detailing the many, many hiccups the development has gone through.

Maybe it's just a cursed project?

absolute ****~ ugly graphics, horrible camera, art is disgusting.. gameplay is average with very weak response to attack. Feels off. I cannot believe they took so long and its worse than some middle of the range japanese hack/slash.
