Alone in the Dark out this Thursday

360 News | Atari confirm early release date.
Last week, a number of websites began listing Alone in the Dark's release date a week earlier then expected. After much speculation and confusion, Atari Australia has confirmed via its latest release schedule that Alone in the Dark will indeed be available on store shelves from this Thursday, June 26. A number of retailers have already started receiving copies of the survival horror title, so fans can rest assured that the game will be released this week.

While the Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 2 and Wii versions of Alone in the Dark will be out this Thursday, PlayStation 3 owners will have to wait until spring.

I have mixed feelings about this. I loooove AitD (horrible film aside), and thoroughly enjoyed the first four games. However, the reviews that are starting to leak through teh intarwebs are less than encouraging - saying that for every innovative feature or cinematic moment, there's three hours of mindless padding. Me not like padding.

Great. Smash Brawl, Guitar Hero DS and this all on the same day. Thank goodness for trade-in deals. My wallet is not as scared.

I'll be anxiously awaiting PALGN's review of this one, since I'm in two minds about picking it up.

One the for side, it seems to be well put together, and it has inventive gameplay and controls.

On the against side, I'm a massive scaredy-cat. icon_razz.gif

Yeah, this is a wait and see-er for me. Luckily the wait won't be as long as expected though.

Early reviews (eurogamer, IGN etc) suggest the game is good but deeply flawed in places which I think we all suspected. A miss for me.

I read a review and yea basically what I expected, bad controls. See the problem i've always had is the game's ambition when it's not really a developer I can rely on, they're trying all this new stuff when imo they should work on nailing a few certain aspects most importantly of which are the controls.

I still might pick it up (despite not having even played MGS4 yet) and i'm interested in that mad special edition that was going with the figurine, artbook etc. Any ideas if we're getting that in Australia? I might pre-order today if it's not too late.

I might wait till I can rent it, I love survival horror but it seems to fall flat on all the parts that I really hate about the genre like the unneccesary padding.

PC version? Hmm might have to check out what the reviews say after all icon_wink.gif

It sure is this Thursday. Four boxes containing copies of the game landed on my desk.

With all the talk of the game being below average, at least the developer hit the target in one section; the special edition box art.

Its ashame that they went to all the trouble of making such a cool special addition and the game isn't living up to expectations.

The early reviews posted around the joint have made me extremely sceptical about the quality of this title. That and the fact that PS3 owners are getting rammed with a late release date. By now, if they can't release a title simultaneously across multi-platforms, leaving a straggler behind, they don't deserve my hard-earned. If a title as massive as GTA can do it there really shouldn't be any excuses.

^Because leaving PC behind totally doesnt count right?
Making it an entirely all-platforms deal?
