Battlefield: Bad Company Interview - Part 3

360 Interview | Get a little insight to some of the weapons and vehicles featured in the game.
In the third and final part of our interview with Battlefield: Bad Company’s Senior Producer, Kar Magnus Troedsson, we’ve focused on the weapons that are featured in the game. Troedsson has discussed how the development team went about choosing the weapons that would appear in the final build, some of the vehicles players will be taking control of and, finally, his personal favourite weapons.

PALGN: How did you go about choosing and creating the weapons that appear in the game?

Karl Magnus Troedsson: The hardware we choose to add in any Battlefield game is based upon a couple of things. Firstly they of course need to fit the setting but the other thing is what gameplay they can add to the experience. Does the real life equivalent of the weapon or vehicle have any specific feature that we can turn into a gameplay element? That makes them much more interesting.

PALGN: Have any weapons from previous entries returned in Bad Company and if so, have they been altered in any way (eg. ammo capacity, the way players aim them, etc)?

KT: Yes we probably have some weapons that been used e.g. in Battlefield 2. However, all weapons are specially balanced for this game.

PALGN: What type of vehicles will players be able to take control of?

KT: In Battlefield: Bad Company you’ll be fighting on land, in the air and at sea. The line up of vehicles is very wide and offers many different options. Light vehicles in the form of jeeps etc. are quick around the battlefield but provide little cover. Heavy tanks are the beasts and should be treated with respect. Throw in some attack helicopters, patrol boats, heavy artillery, laser designators, mortar strikes and suddenly the whole map quickly turns into one big glass crater.

PALGN: On a personal level, can you tell us a little bit about your favourite weapon?

KT: During the production I’ve been spending a lot of time in the playtest playing as the Recon class, having the M95 as a favourite weapon. Long range, very high powered and with a devastating sound this makes for an awesome sniper experience, even with the low firing rate it comes with. This in combination with the anti-vehicle oriented laser designator this kit comes with creates a very interesting combination. However, during the beta test and now during the demo I’ve more or less completely switched into playing as Support, using the MG36 light machine gun. This bullet hose together with the ability to heal myself and my buddies as well as using the offensive mortar strike makes this kit my latest favourite.
