Square Enix release dates revealed

360 News | RPGs galore.
Square Enix were there at the Xbox 360 RPG Premiere event in Tokyo to announce the release dates for a few of their upcoming games to feature on Microsoft's console.

Infinite Undiscovery was mentioned, and the release date we originally reported was confirmed to be an early September release (specifically, the 5th for Europe).

Last Remnant, a game that is in development on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is down for a global release later this year on Microsoft's console, and it was mentioned that 360 owners would get a chance to play it before PS3 owners will. No timeframe was mentioned for the PlayStation 3 release.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope, the fourth game in the Star Ocean series, is scheduled to hit the Xbox 360 sometime in 2009. There was no mention as to whether it would make it onto other platforms, which is interesting considering the franchise has initially featured on Sony consoles in the past.

It should be a busy time for RPG fans when these games are released in the coming months; we'll have more information on each title as it comes to hand.

Looks like they're focusing on "Westerners" now. So I wonder if that'll change the way the games play, it might be a boon or a curse to traditional Square Enix fans.

Strangely enough it's looking like 360 is the go-to console for RPG's. PS3 has that uh, that one game (Folklore was it called?) whereas 360 has Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey already out and from the looks of things a few more coming. Makes you wonder how long it will be until the PS3 busts out FFXIII and KH3.

It's not really going to be that busy for JRPG gamers on the 360. There's what, two new games? We're not getting Tales of Vesperia until 2009 apparently (Namco hates us). Am I forgetting other stuff that's in the pipeline?

Looks awesome can't wait for them. Especially SOIV, now if they would kindly please announce a PS3 release date for it, all is well.

What exactly are the Tales game? Tales of Versperia looks interesting.

Tales of Phatasia was probably the best SNES game I ever played, and easily one of the best RPGs I've ever played, havn't played any of the others but if Tales of Versperia is going to be anywhere near as good then it's as good as bought icon_biggrin.gif

Yep, Microsoft are pulling out all the stops to appeal to the Japanese market. That's not to say that tyhe PS3 is being left out though, Last Remnant is coming to the PS3, as will Star Ocean (95% chance, I'd say, it started on the PS2 after all). White Knight Chronicles is also on the way. We won't be seeing a "KH3" until FFXIII is done (I'm starting to see why it's taking so long, with Square-Enix working on all this other stuff).

Vervain: Ah, of course, you're right. Ok, well aside from that its been a PS2 franchise, and I definitely see it coming to PS3.

I find this sudden turn towards Microsoft by Square-Enix interesting though. If I didn't know better I'd say a fair bit of money changed hands.

Actually Star Ocean was first on the SNES, so the series is a bit of a company hopper meaning it may end up being a microsoft exclusive (although I highly doubt it).

No matter how you look at it, there's some interesting releases. I've been waiting for more news on The Last Remnant for a while now, and Star Ocean news always warms my heart!
