That's not better, that's just trying to be more photo-realistic. I wouldn't have minded seeing the other style being developed further, though. Oh well.

I guess these days it's more about re-creating photo-realism, and less about creating a world that looks realistic relative to itself.

Except that they're doing a game based on real world environments with real people using a realistic physics engine to recreate a realastic snowboarding experience. If they'd gone and done it in Jet Set Radio style I don't think it would have worked that well.

The original pictures were from the Wii version, the DS and Wii are less technically able than the 360 and PS3, so attempting photorealism on those platforms only really leads to disappointment, as the other platforms are better able to satisfy higher levels of detail, which is a major criteria for realistic graphics.

Instead, the Wii and DS versions of this game are going for a more stylised appearance, which doesn't need to push the systems to their knees in order to be visually appealing, they just do it in a different way.

It's something that could probably be taken to heart by other developers who still try to make realistic looking ports on video hardware that is many years old, rather than thinking outside the box and going for something simpler, yet stylised in such a way that it looks good, even if it's not so detailed.

That said, not a massive fan of the look of either the Wii or PS3/360 of this game, I guess the slopes aren't quite my thing icon_smile.gif
