Ubidays 08: Lack of Conviction explained

360 News | Sort of.
Yesterday, we reported the complete and utter lack of Splinter Cell: Conviction at Ubisoft's Ubidays conference, despite it being a very important franchise to the company.

Eurogamer pestered Christine Burgess-Overmard, who is behind global development at Ubisoft, into explaining the missing game.

"The team is still working on it," said Burgess-Overmard. "Splinter Cell is one of our major IPs, so we don't let them go out before they're perfect, and it's not yet perfect. So the team is polishing it so we can have a great game to offer the consumers."

When she was pushed for a time frame on the game's release, she replied with a firm "when it's ready". Don't expect to get your hands on this one anytime soon, then.

I heard Assassin's Creed was to blame.

How that game handled 'hiding in plain' sight apparently made Conviction's system look prehistoric by comparison, so it's apparently back to the drawing board for the design team. I don't know what this mean for it's release date but I can't imagine it would be good news.

I personally really enjoyed Double Agent, but I was never a Splinter Cell fan to begin with so I can't say I'm jonesing for the next game. It's not that we know much about it anyway so there's not a lot to get excited about.

That's not really an explanation though, is it? The title shoudl be more along the lines of 'Ubidays 08: Lack of Conviction question carefully sidestepped'.

Capoeira's rumour sounds alot more plausible, and I've heard that too. If it is true it's sad that Ubi just can't say 'we've seen the genre advance in new directions and we're taking those ideas on board'. There's too much willy waving in games development.

Honestly I don't see the problem with that answer "It's not good enoguh yet" seems like a good reason, I mean look at what happend to Too Human.

Ubidays 08: Lack of Conviction.
At first I thought: "Now that's a terrible title for a game."

Then I thought: "Why were they hoping for a guilty verdict when the game isn't even announced yet?"

Then I thought: "The only thing it should be convicted for is bad humour."

Then I strangled myself with my wireless keyboard cord before I could make any more bad jokes.

Sorry guys. Once I post, I can't stop.
