Saint's Row 2 delayed

360 News | Game will now be out in October.
Saint's Row 2 was originally scheduled for release this August, but according to Reuters the game has been pushed back until October the 14th in America.

The delay is "due to product quality and marketing considerations". THQ Australia hasn't confirmed when Saint's Row 2 will be out in Australia yet, but when they do we'll let you know.

do you think it may be due to the fact they saw how good GTAIV is/was and went back to tweak it that bit more as it wasnt quite up to standard???

It's too late for that, I'd assume someone found a serious bug/s and they've gone back to fix those. That or they're holding off to release way after GTA so they look less like a clone and when people have started getting tired of Liberty City.

I'd be surprised if it was simply because of GTA - Saints Row 2 looks to offer a much lighter take on the genre, and much more ridiculous action than GTA does. Ever since discovering that there aren't any 'silly' weapons in GTAIV (no flamethrower, minigun, heatseeking missiles, etc.) I've been looking forward to SR2 more to hopefully bring some wacky carnage my way =)

Edit: Although, while that might be evident to 'gamers' I suppose the 'casual' market wouldn't be aware of those kind of differences... so a push back to accomodate GTA would still make sense.

Looks to me they've finished GTA and decided their game could do with more work. And 'marketing considerations' - i'm surprised they even said that! Looking at the two scenarios - if it came out in August - people would have forgotten about it and bought GTA when November came out. But now releasing in October ensures that its a newer title come Christmas time and possibly can get a few more sales because of this reason.

When they do something like this its usualy to make it as perfect as possible. I dont think GTA 4 has anything to do with it. They are both open "sand box" style games but different when it comes down to content.

I'm gunna pre order mine with GAME, they're giving away the new destroy all human game with it for free and its prolly going to be worth $100... Plus this game is going to be a breath of fresh air because GTA 4 is getting kind of stale for me...

Saints will probably be a throw back to the more 'sillier' GTA games like Vice City with over acting and insane action..

Still, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that they need to delay the game simply due to ALL the reasons people have said. GTA looks pretty good graphically with no loading, Saints from what I've seem doesn't look as good (running on a modified version of the Saints 1 engine which is already a couple of years old) and they probably wanna tidy it all up..

Still, putting as much time between the 2 titles makes sense and getting it closer to Christmas should help sales (though if the game is awesome it should sell on release and still sell to Christmas).

Let's not forget that 2 months isn't that much compared to GTAIVs original delays...

Isn't the GTA IV DLC due to hit around that time of year anyway? If they're worried about any GTA issues then they're just going to have to suck it up and deal with that streamroller.

I suppose the good news to take away from this is that Saint's Row 2 will be a better game because of this delay, and that's always a good thing.

GTA IV must have played a significant part in the delay. It had to. Volition must have pumped hours of time playing the game to see how Rockstar handled certain gameplay aspects and they must have liked some of what they saw.

I don't think they're about to add TV shows to the game or an in-game internet system or anything drastic like that. I do think a lot of the detail and subtlety that goes into creating a city have been picked up by the Saint's Row team to to shoehorn into their own game. Not that I'd blame em for it.

That was my first thought when I heard about that.

As long as the game is decent and they use the extra time to give it some extra polish (and some extra QA and testing, because God only knows there wasn't a lot of that in the first game icon_razz.gif).

Ordinarily I wouldn't even be considering this game, but after having GTA IV remove just about everything I loved about the earlier games I'm more serious about it. Hopefully they're taking some more time to add in as much wackiness as they can to distance themselves from GTA IV's gritty, realistic dreariness.
