GTA IV cut details emerge

360 News | So, what's missing from our version?

One of our readers, Mick, has sent through a summary of what has been cut from the Australian version of Grand Theft Auto IV, in comparison to the UK version. Mick has played through both versions of the game.

According to Mick, when players pick up a prostitute in the Australian version, there is no way to select a 'service' from the prostitute. The sexual intercourse sex animation has also been completely removed, so players will only see the car bounce from a locked rear-view. In the uncut version, after selecting a service from the prostitute, players can rotate the camera to see the prostitute's actions.

Also in the Australian version, no blood pools will appear beneath a dead person after shooting or stabbing them to death. There are blood splatters, but no blood pools. In the uncut version, blood will slowly ooze out from under a body, and it is possible to create bloody footprints by walking through the blood, or bloody tyre tracks from driving through it. Finally, when Niko or other NPCs are injured in the uncut version, light blood patches appear on their bodies which basically represent bruises/bullet wounds.

Mick doesn't make mention of any cutscene changes or any other alterations, so it seems the local censorship really was quite minor.

Thanks to Mick for the tip. It has also come to our attention since publication that bloody footprints and tyre tracks are in the AU version.

I got mine from hmv only because game was sold out, but they shipped it earlier than i expected so was pretty happy with that.
So you can't get $20 handjobs or $50 blowjobs in the Aus version? meh... Once you check it out once and have a giggle, you're unlikely to return, unless you're REALLY lonely..

well the blood pools and tyre tracks and footprints are no different to carmageddon and that came out in what, 93 or something. A leetle regression never helped no one Roman.........

I'm with you.I don't care about the hookers but I'm quite pissed about the blood pools.

Serious? I guess Luke should add that to the article then. Can you be more specific man? I've played through the whole game (uncut/cut) and I can't recall seeing anything like that. There were lots of things shown in pre-release videos that aren't in the final game. Was it a user made video?

well it was a vid on ign - sorry im a bit lazy since a lot of the uncut reports conflict but if you want ansawrs you should check out the GTAforums

well my advice to you then is to go round in a car and hit a biker as hard as you can - diambermet should be in the uncut but not au - could you plase file a report of all the things that are and arnt true ?

there is definitely dismemberment in the Au version, though not from the method you describe.
i've blown limbs off with shotguns and sniper rifles - similar to a certain moment in Call of Duty 4 - but i haven't seen it from vehicle crashes.
it's rare (i'd say i could probably count the number of limbs i've removed on my fingers

) but it does happen.

arterial spurting is also in the Au version. the very first person i kill was a death from a shot to the knee, which resulted in a fountain of blood from his knee. amused me for minutes, that did.
again, rare occurrence, in my experience.

You'd think that Rockstar will create (or have created) a mod similar to that of Hot Coffee to remove the censored material.

You might as well try to convince people that you have to steal unicorns instead of cars! After playing 80hrs of GTA IV I can confirm to everybody that this person is telling whoppers. What is published in the PALGN article is what has been removed from the AU version, that's it. I have played through BOTH versions and have throughly compared them.

There is NO dismemberment, period. You may mistake car doors or light posts for limbs but I repeat; there is NO dismemberment what so ever.

Why do people keep making things up? Are you guys being sarcastic? Unless you've been able to magically alter the games code there are NO bloody tyre tracks either.

i ran over a body red tracks go on the road and tryes but it must have been red paint right ? and i saw this vid were a guy going relly relly fast hit the back wheel of a bike and the biker fell farad off his bike hit his head and i saw 2 arms go flying now i didnt dream this **** so what is it you came to ?

I'm gunna hold off making any pronouncements until i get a full changelist from R*.

But reduced gore is crap. I hate the fact that R* self-censored... didnt even have the balls to submit an uncut copy for review.

there most definitely IS some form of dismemberment in my Australian version of GTA4.
i've clearly seen, with my own eyes, arms, legs and heads disappearing as a result of being shot by a shotgun and the sniper rifle - not everytime, as i said, i doubt it's happened more than 10 times, but it's there. the first time i saw it, it was Niko's leg that was blown off, so it was unmistakably dismembered with the slow-mo and all.

(likewise, the prostitute animations are still included, but only visible as a voyeur - when a civilian NPC makes the pickup - follow them a while, and they'll eventually bounce the springs in an alley somewhere.)

If you can honestly debunk this and prove that they are present in the censored version then I will gladly admit I am wrong. But I have played both so you won't be able to.

Yea man I know you have blood splatter but again, there are no blood red tyre tracks in the AU version from what I have seen. Sorry for sounding like a broken record but I would like for someone to please post a screeny of the censored version and the tyre tracks or this imaginary dismemberment.

I'm not going to look like a fool if you post proof, I'll just be wrong which is fine because the less censored content the better.

I think it's just a rare occurrence.I definitely saw it happen, I can even remember what I thought when it happened.I thought to myself that it was ridiculous that they took out pools of blood but they left in bloody tyre tracks.

But since then I've never been able to do it again.

Is it possible that they didn't perfectly remove it, causing a glitch where it does happen?

could be cz i cant just run over them well some times i can other times i have to shoot them then run them over for it to work .
