Ubisoft denies Splinter Cell redesign

360 News | Splinter Cell: Conviction not going back to the drawing board.
In response to a report which appeared in Xbox World 360 magazine, Ubisoft has hit back at the suggestions that Splinter Cell: Conviction was being redesigned as nothing more than speculation.

According to the rumour in question, Conviction would go back to the development drawing board in an effort to make it a more 'groundbreaking' title. This added development time also suggested a new release window of Christmas 2009 - or possibly mid 2010 before the latest adventure of Sam Fisher would hit store shelves.

According to this denial, there's no info to give, it's not true.

Yeah it would suck if they did resign it, the current idea sounds good enough.

Does anyone even care about Splinter Cell anymore?

^ I do. It's one of my favourite series. The first and third games were brilliant (Chaos Theory is one of my top 5 Xbox games), and the fourth and most recent was reasonably good.

I'm really apprehensive about this one though.

I think a redesign might be just what the gamer ordered. I loved part 1, played about 1/2 way through part 2 and thought it was too repetitive and even though I own part 3 I don't think i've ever played it (even though I hear it's one of the best) and subsequently was never interested in part 4. The trial-and-error, slow paced gameplay is what has kinda kept me away so i'm hoping this one is more like a Jason Bourne type of spy, one who gets in on heaps of hand-to-hand combat, chases etc. Sick of shooting mofos from shadows like a coward.

^Ugh, Conviction is already a redesign from the old stealth gameplay into a more Bourne-style spy game. I think what this is talking about it a redesign of the redesign, if you get me.

The Conviction idea sounds good, I'm just hoping Ubi can pull it off, at least they have the "good" splinter Cell team working on it
