Grand Theft Auto IV tops Xbox Live activity

360 News | Are we really that surprised?
Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb has today confirmed what most of us have been expecting - Grand Theft Auto IV has topped the charts in Xbox Live online activity.

In its first week, Rockstar's open world title has beat out Infinity Ward's stellar shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's stranglehold on the top spot, a spot which it has held for an impressive consecutive three months after ousting Halo 3 out of the top spot in January.

Major Nelson's rankings are based on the number of unique users playing online while connected to Xbox Live, but as many gamers are finishing up the single-player component of the game the jury is out as to whether the multiplayer side of GTA IV will have the legs to rival Call of Duty 4's impressive tenure at the top.
