Prince of Persia details revealed

360 News | Things have well and truly changed.
Ubisoft announced a new Prince of Persia title only recently, but didn't exactly reveal all that much about the new game, which is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The reveal seems to have been left to Joypad magazine, who has just published the first preview of the game, according to Eurogamer.

The game is in development at Ubisoft Montreal, who worked on Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The game features cel-shaded graphics and the Sands of Time rewind powers have been removed. Apparently the gameplay centres on "healing a corrupted world" which is in the style of Shadow of the Colossus.

According to the magazine the creative director of the game, Jean-Christophe Guyot, stated that the aim was to create a more fantastical game. "The previous trilogy mixed the Arabian Nights in with historical Persia. We decided we'd prefer to return to the tales of the Thousand and One Nights for something more colourful."

Ubisoft management wasn't exactly sold on the game initially. "They knew we weren't going to make a second Assassin's Creed," he said. "However, they did raise their eyebrows a bit at the new, stylised artistic direction. They were worried the Americans wouldn't like it. There were many discussions, but they never said no to us."

Combat will still be an important part of the game. There will be less enemies, but they will be more vicious. Apparently this Prince of Persia game will focus on one-on-one swordfighting duels. Ubisoft should be releasing more details on the game shortly. We'll let you know when they do.

That sounds really, really good - I also love the graphical style (or what little of it could be seen from those small screenshots). May have to keep an eye on this one.

Whoa, now that does look really nice. You couldn't really appreciate the detail on the smaller screens but blow it up to that size and it's actually very, very impressive!

Ubisoft Montreal really do have one of the best art teams in the business. Assassin's Creed still stands as the most beautiful looking games I've ever played, and not just for it's technical prowess. The art was just as amazing. Good to see they haven't lost their touch.

Yeah, I love the look of it - and now I love the idea of it too. Very much looking forward to some video footage down the track.

I like the sounds of this. I don't know why they would cut out Time Powers, though, and combat has never been PoP's strong point, so I hope it turns out well.

I loved PoP, so I'm a little dubious about the changes. It seems like they made Assassin's Creed too similar to PoP, and have had to take PoP in a new direction to counter that. Hope it works better than the change of direction in SC:Double Agent.

I don't think Assassin's Creed was similiar to PoP at all really. Assassin's Creed was like historicaly accurate (Aside from the spoiler filled end fight) were as PoP was all full of sand monsters and demon arms.
