Ricky Gervais to appear in GTA IV

360 News | Coming to a virtual comedy club near you.
With the release of the hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV only a fortnight away, it seems that everyday a new tidbit on the game - be it fact or fiction - is making its way onto the internet.

The latest information over at Dark Zero is sure to send fans of British comedy into a stir with funnyman Ricky Gervais, of the popular television show The Office set to appear in the game.

Dark Zero reports that Gervais will not be taking on the role of an original character, instead he will be playing himself with gamers able to catch Gervais' stand up talents at a Liberty City comedy club. According to reports, Gervais will not be recycling any of his old material, instead choosing to write and perform material to be used exclusively in the game.

Rumour also has it that Gervais might not be the only celeb in town, with other real world figures reportedly hiding within the pixels of Liberty City.

Of course, with the game's release around the corner we'll just have to wait until we get our hands on it to see for ourselves.

Awesome. I just hope we don't start getting "gangsta" cameos from Snoop Dogg and the like.

I should not have read this, but I couldn't help it :'(

Oh well...

There are no words to describe just how incredible this news is. I'm currently listening to his podcast series right now so I'm at the moment very much in tune with his style of comedy. This is brilliant. BRILLIANT!

I wonder what other little surprises like this lie in store for us. I only hope I don't learn them all before I get a chance to actually play it...

This news is GREAT - and it does fall in with the comment on the official playstation magazine (UK) review of GTA 4 where the reviewer says that you (Nico Belic) can watch a household comedy name perform as himself in the game. Both the Official XBOX and PLAYSTATION magazines have given 10/10 scores for the game and after reading the scans of the review, I can't wait for 12.01am on 29th April to get my hands on it - Still can't decide which platform to get it on though .... Can someone help me...

Well they would.

If one gave a 10 for the game on their system and the other gave a lower score that would lower the average score for the game on their system and cost thousands in sales when people check gamerankings or similar.

It makes commercial sense for them to inflate the score of any cross platform AAA game.

Yeah i never take notice of official magazine scores they are always high.

Having said that I dont expect to see many scores under 90% for this game.

Fantastic news. The cool thing is, there's no reason for GTA4 to have comedy clubs with real life comedians performing as themselves in said clubs. But you can do it anyway.

And that's why I've taken the 29th off.

I'm Jealous!

Unfortunately the two people I work with most closely have taken leave for the next three weeks. This puts me in a situation where I will be trying to do the equivalent of approx. two and a half positions.
Not only will not be playing on the 29th but I will probably be too tuckered out to get a decent game in on Friday night either.

C'est la vie, the game will be waiting when I'm ready for it.

On Topic: I love they way they can fit such huge amount of content on todays media. Compare this extravagant use of audio to the GTA1 with about half an hour of radio shared among all the stations.

That's awesome!

S'pose I should get around putting down a preorder for this.

That's pretty cool.

A very interesting idea - could gaming be the next platform for hollywood?

I like the site and I used to come here often but I am going to be frequenting less now that you are posting spoilers on the front page. Please think before you post headlines that might ruin awesome spontaneous gaming moments for people in the future. Ya muppets.

If you honestly care THAT much about spoilers i'd avoid the internet for the next 12 days or so.

Also mentioning that he is in the voice acting cast isn't really a spoiler. But i'm guessing you read more into the article yourself to find out why hes in it. Therefore spoiling it for yourself. Ya muppet.

It's actually all spelled out on the front page. The funny thing is, if it had been worded differently I would not have read it. At the mention of GTA IV I stop reading, but because I saw his name first and not a GTA IV banner I went on reading, hoping he was bringing out a game or something but then BAM!! - the walking into a club and seeing him on stage for the first time was ruined. icon_sad.gif And I really like surprises.

Not going to loose any sleep over it for sure but it could have been handled a little differently... ya muppet.

while i share you abhorrence for Spoilers, Newbie is right in that we'd be better off avoiding the internet (well, at least the gaming side of it) for the next two weeks if we want to remain entirely spoiler free.

i'd seen this news far and wide over the past few days, and simply saying "RG to appear in GTA IV" is probably the most discrete headline i've seen.

of course, i too ruined it for myself by then investigating, but then i only have myself to blame for that.
