50 Cent: Blood on the Sand to feature 'no geo-political context'

360 News | Aims to further 'games as art' debate.
In an interview with CVG, Swordfish Studios' game director Julian Widdows has divulged new information about the upcoming 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.

The game, according to Widdows, will be set in the "everyman's war zone ... the hood beyond the hood" - that is, the middle-east. Players will, like 50 Cent Bulletproof, take control of Curtis James Jackson III himself as he travels through the middle-east, though Widdows was keen to emphasise that the setting will be notionally fictional. "There's no geo-political context to this game," said Widdows. The game director also seemed keen to flush out any association with the current political climate, despite it's middle-eastern setting: "The arch bad guy - we can't tell you who it is but it's a pretty high profile American actor - will be instantly recognisable. But he's an American. The first key bad guy that you encounter, who you're actually working for at this point, is an American. The guards you shoot in the third act are all Russian."

Widdows seemed guarded on the topic of Fiddy's creative input on the game, though he did mention that, "He [50 Cent] took a look at it and he was like, 'You know, it looks really cool, I'd like something a little bit more'."

We'd comment further, but we believe Widdow's words do the game justice. 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand does not yet have a solid Australian release date, though with 50 Cent: Bulletproof initially being banned on Australian soil, it may be a while yet before we play this game.

So it's like 50 Cent: Call of Duty 4 Edition.

I heard the first level will be called "Fiddy don't Surf".

I'm going to keep assuming this is just a late April Fools Joke. Nothing anyone can say will convince me otherwise, because the world is not so stupid as to actually have something like this existing in it. Right? Right?

There needs to be an asterisk after that comment:

* Excluding the main character and possibly other characters and locations.

The only way a game is going to have zero geo-political content is if everyone looks like Crash Dummies and is set in space icon_rolleyes.gif

And even that would be a statement, of sorts.

I actually don't think it will be that bad, the first wasn't the worst, but I guess everybody does have different opinions...

It's a morally bad game, ie it's a mature game aimed at 10-14 year olds. This game or the first would never sell if it wasn't for "50 Cent" label on it. On principal it shouldn't even be allowed to be sold in Australia.

and where was the first hood exactly.

Already this year we've had plenty of notable quotes from game devs and the PR people they employ... but "everyman's war zone ... the hood beyond the hood" is without a doubt the best one yet.

Also... the third 'act'? That insinuates a hell of a lot about the game that I just don't believe they can fulfil. Act indeed...

There'd be more artistic merit if you dropped a pizza on a dog turd and took a photo and turned it into some sort of flash game.

With his whole "get rich or die trying" mentality I wish he'd just jump to the last bit and save the rest of the population that is over the age of 14 a favour.

You know what? And this is going to be a very bold statement... I think I'd rather play Superman 64... There I said it!
