Saints Row 2 dated

360 News | More free-roaming console thuggery set for 2008.
At THQ's Gamer's Day event in San Francisco, THQ has announced that Saints Row 2 will be hitting the streets this August, ensuring that gamers have more thug life in store post Grand Theft Auto IV.

To celebrate the announcement, THQ has also launched the title's official website, which will give a taste of what the streets of Stilwater will have to offer this time around.

While the release date is not yet confirmed for Australia, Saints Row 2 will be ready to roll in other parts of the world on August 26th.

I still need to play Saints Row before this one.

there is very little chance that this game will even hold a torch to gta4.

very dangerous releasing a game of similar nature to GTA 4 in the same century.

I really enjoyed the first Saints Row and played it for a fair time after beating it - that really shows to me that it was a good sand box game so I'm naturally very excited about the second title. I'll most certainly be buying this on the week of its release (hopefully most of GTAIV will be completed by then though!).

Crackdown isn't really a GTA clone. Crackdown is more suited to comparison with games like Prototype and Infamous.

^In the end there all open world games so the comparison (GTA-Crackdown) is kinda fair and often made, though I do think that Saints Row is much more of a straight GTA clone then anything else out there.

I really enjoyed the first one and from what little I've read about the second there ramping up the over the top craziness from the first to make it stand out more from the (seemingly) more realistic GTA4. The full co-op play sounds great, I just hope the net code is better then the originals as it was a massive lag fest ever time i tried to play it online

I have much <3 for the original SR, so much so that when my first save corrupted on my 360 for SR I started a new one and finally beat the game. So I will definitely be picking up SR2 on launch day.

I could stand how thug the original was. There was nothing tongue-in-cheek about it, either. It was all arse-hanging and cursing without any humour.

True.

Which is exactly the reason why you should forget trying to compare the games and just enjoy it for what it is rather than what it should be or whatever.

I'm looking forward to SR2 as well due to my enjoyment of the first. Not so sure it is a game that I'd buy upon release (depends on my financial situation at the time I guess) but it is definitely a game I will be buying at some point. I'm actually quite interested in seeing the changes they have made to Stilwater too.

I think Saints Row 2 will have a pretty good chance against Grand Theft Auto. I though the first rendition was a pretty good title and a definite contender against the GTA series.
My only issue really has been the world feeling a bit static in places along with a couple of "broken" aspects of the game. Other than that it's a competent sandbox shooter that should stand a decent chance against the GTA franchise.

I can't wait to see the bugs and the possible Youtube Musicals based around them.
