Dreamfall now an Xbox Original

360 News | Purchase it for 1200 MS points.
One of the more critically acclaimed Xbox games towards the end of the console's life-cycle was Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. The action adventure game was released on the PC as well back in 2006, and fans will be happy to know that Dreamfall is the newest member of the Xbox Originals service.

The game became available on the Marketplace earlier this week, and joins Xbox favourites such as Fable and Burnout Revenge among others, with more Originals coming in the near future. Like the others, Dreamfall will only set you back a cool 1200 points. Look out for our verdict on the Originals version of the game in our monthly round-up next week.

I don't think it would be terrible.

I saw it ages ago when it came out on Xbox but never got it. Maybe now I'll give it a try.

Dreamfall is very good. I bought it off steam a few months ago and throughly enjoyed it.

So which version would people recommend? PC or XBOX?

Well I played the PC version and loved it but I don't think you can go wrong either way. I usually prefer to play adventure games on the PC but as it's not really a point and click like the original it shouldn't matter too much which system you play it on.

You can buy the Xbox version for $9.95 (new) at GAME, for those who prefer not to download a 2.8gb file, not to mention it's half the price of the Originals version.

This is the truth.

Try and get the original game The Longest Journey (Dreamfall is a sequel) as well, TLJ is a point on click on the PC, its an old game so anyone should be able to run it.

Dreamfall would be fine on Xbox, since it's 3rd person adventure, and using a gamepad probably works better than keyboard/mouse.

Also, my avatar features a character from Dreamfall, so how could you not want it? icon_razz.gif

As the man above me knows, I have been interested in this (and the original) game for quite a while now. I was quite surprised when it became a title for the Originals range but also quite happy as it is finally my chance to experience the game.

Of course I'd love to experience the original too but I really don't see this crappy PC of mine running it. icon_sad.gif

Anyway, time to get MS points!

Original runs on like a PIII 500 or something pathetic like that. It was released in 97 (roughly) after all.

Well this is a P4 but because I'm a n00b and all, I couldn't tell you what is actually inside it.

hindiguru is right and you can get it from game and even eb pretty cheap, but overall this game is fantastic, even the graphics and the world look pretty well done for an original xbox game. too bad xbox originals dont have acheivments aye?

Trust me, unless you computer is a relic of the 80's, you will have no problems running this game. There is a bare minimum of geometry as the majority of the art assets were either pre-rendered or FMV. There's nothing in this game that will come even close to pushing your computer.

That's not to say it's a bad game. Far from it, it's one of the best adventure games ever and has one of my favorite game stories. Dreamfall will be a MUCH better game had you played the original as it's the second part of what will (hopefully) become a trilogy*.

Would you have wanted to watch the Two Towers without having seen Fellowship of the Ring? Or The Empire Strikes Back before Star Wars? It's the same thing here. Story is the main draw for these games and the backstory of The Longest Journey will undoubtedly enhance the experience of the sequel. There are also moments in Dreamfall that are meant to be really, really cool but will be lost on those new to the series. You don't want that do you?

*Unlike a trilogy however, there aren't going to be three games. The Longest Journey was the first chapter. Dreamfall is the second, however that was only the first part. The next game will conclude it, i.e. part 2 of chapter 2. The final game will be the final chapter which then brings the total amount of games in the series to four. At least that's the plan. The games need to have sold well enough for this to happen. I would be devastated if Funcom never got the chance to finish the story. So BUY THE GAME. BOTH OF THEM. This is a story that needs to be completed.

Ah, nuts - for some reason I thought that Dreamfall was the first title. Is the first one up on Steam?

If only gaming wasn't so expensive right now, I would buy this.
