Bioshock MMO and movie are 'potential opportunities'

360 News | Take-Two's milk brings the franchise over-saturation to the yard.
Take-Two have certainly seen better days, that much is true. In light of such desperate times, the company has unsurprisingly taken desperate measures to prove its unconsolidated worth to stockholders and the public alike.

The golden boy trump card? Why none other than the philosophical underwater first-person shooter, Bioshock, of course -- and an over milking of it, at that. Included in a 2008 Smid Cap Conference presentation (viewable via MTV Multiplayer), outlining potential future endeavours for the company and its properties were listings for a Bioshock MMO, a Bioshock mobile game (something already alluded to by the company a while ago), and a Bioshock movie. A Bioshock branded kitchen sink -- with suitably labelled 'Incinerate' hot water and 'Winter Blast' cold water taps -- was not listed as of this writing.

Also included in the presentation as potential projects were a Civilization MMO, and a Carnival Games mobile game. While we're sure no one could care less about an MMO based on the one-hit wonder that was Civilization, a Carnival Games mobile game sounds like Game of the Year material. Le sarcasm.

Yes, it should be duly noted that all of these potential projects are just that. But just knowing that Take-Two is even contemplating some of these possibilities is exciting/depressing, depending on which side of the franchise fence you sit on.

And knowing is half the battle.

BioShock has one of the most spectacular STORIES in a game to date, and MMOs do not have real stories. I feel really sorry for Ken Levine (and, come to think of it, all of 2K) if any of this comes into production.

Plussed for the blurb at the very least.

I would rather hear of some news centered around Bioshock 2.

I swear if they turn BioShock into an MMO that is a crime against gaming and I'm going to commit suicide or something.

Okay so that's a bit of a stupid thing to say and I don't really mean it, but seriously what the hell? BioShock isn't suited towards an MMO so why the hell are they even considering it?

I'm happy or welcome to the idea of a sequel or prequel (or both), but something completely different like an MMO is a no go as far as I'm concerned. To me it just screams like "Yay let's ruin our franchise!"

*sigh*

Edit: Gee, not half a BioShock fanboy or anything are you Nismo?

So are a Lord of the Rings MMO and movie... stupid franchisim ends up ruining everthing... icon_evil.gif

...wait a sec. icon_doh.gif

I say wait before saying anything. I do think that if they could pull off real-time MMOs (not turn-based attacks, but FPS-style gameplay), then Bioshock would make a great MMO. Imagine roaming the city, with clans of splicers warring it out... could *potentially* be great.

Similarly, a movie could turn out very well, if directed from an interesting angle, and if it focuses more on the theme of whether humanity is biological, mental, or moral, rather than becoming some crappy horror flick.

So note my sarcasm in the first line. While I was initially skeptical, I tend to take even my own skepticism with a grain of salt these days icon_wink.gif

Wow - that's a neat quote. I might have to copyright that...

Very funny.

I would actually buy that sink though.
