Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition on the way?

360 Rumour | An alleged photo suggests so.
According to Resident Evil fan site, The Horror, there may be another port of Resident Evil 4 in the works, this time for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Allegedly, the site was sent a photo from a reader who works in the office of Capcom’s San Fransisco building. Apparently, this individual spied on an artist who was working on the boxart for the port, and managed to take the picture using his mobile phone. The site also mentions that the supposed 360 and PS3 port will have a new story-campaign for Hunk, in a similar manner to Ada’s Separate Ways scenario in the PlayStation 2, PC and Wii versions.

Given the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 exceeded Capcom’s initial sales expectations, the rumour isn’t too far fetched, particularly with a port of Resident Evil Zero also on the cards for Wii later this year (at least for Japan anyway). That said however, this could simply be an early April Fool’s joke. Either way, we’ll be sure to report back should Capcom make an official announcement.

Special thanks to forum member Shadow Wave for the heads up.

Hey, what, I posted this in the forums.

DAMN YOU SHADOWRUN!!!

JK, I still love you.

Edit: It seems they have taken the photo down. An angry call from Capcom, perhaps icon_wink.gif

Doesn't sound as though it's legit at all, but I won't lie - I'd buy it.

The site has just been updated with more box art images. There is also a promise of footage in the next few days.

Both links in the article are working fine for me, that includes the original photo. You may need to scroll down a bit.

You're right, they have updated with new boxarts, thats why I couldn't see the old stuff.

Def looks fake. Anyways this was posted by a Capcom guy.

Here

"I appreciate the passion that the community has for RE (especially for RE4). That said, I hate seeing people's expectations raised in some unwarranted fashion (and inevitably, I'm sure the Internet will spin it as something we've officially announced and subsequently delayed or cancelled when it doesn't show up ).

I'll stand by the third post I made in this thread. There are no current plans.

But if it makes you all happy, believe what you will.

I smell April fools somewhere."

A 360 port of RE4 would be great for me, the PC port sucks badly and I really don't want to buy a GC or Wii just for RE4.

Makes sense really, especially with RE5 coming to the PS3/360, Capcom would want to build up their fanbase on those platforms.

It's clearly using a circular blur in photoshop. It's a pretty damn good fake, though.

How do you not have a PS2?

I have it on Wii and GC, it's a brilliant game. Hope they do bring it out, but I'm really looking forward to RE5. Maybe RE0 on 360/PS3?

If it was real, I'll buy it for the HUNK addition alone.

Oh man I wish it was real I've missed RE4 so much after selling my PS2 and Gamecube! I've finished the game at least over 10 times, its just so damn perfect. ARG. Please come out icon_razz.gif

For me the Wii verison is THE verison with the wiimote aiming. It doesn't get any better then that.

It will be a shame to have to use conventional controls with RE5.
Nah I prefer the conventional controls, aiming with the wiimote just makes it feel too easy and I hate that (Resident Evil needs to be rock hard), it removes that sense of urgency for me cuz you can just zip the pointer around from one corner of the screen to another whereas with conventional controls you have to pick your shots more carefully cuz a miss can cost you vital time/health.

Anyways I hope this is true, I know Capcom are pimping Resident Evil out a bit but if the quality is high (which it always has been) then there really isn't much to complain about. In all honesty any new Resident Evil content for me is like a gift from the gods, so a new Hunk chapter would be awesome, especially if they give the graphics a little bit of an upgrade (oh please oh please oh please..).

The problem I see with this port idea comes straight down to the graphics. If they leave them exactly the same (with the resolution bump required) then it's going to be a major disappointment to pretty much everyone (see the non REmake RE ports on GCN). This is purely from the perspective that you may as well pay half the price (or less!) for the GCN/Wii/PS2 version the game.

Control wise I'm a Wiimote fan through and through. I just really loved using it and while the GCN version was also good (PS2 was fine as well but never finished it there) I just don't see myself playing again with no major additions. The game has sold a truckload so it's not as if they need to make sure everyone can play it either.

i agree, though possibly for different reasons.

the problem i had with the GC and PS2 versions were that i couldn't see the laser-sight since i'm quite colourblind and the game's colour-scheme meant that i rarely saw what i was actually aiming at, and had to rely on seeing where the bullets landed and trial-and-error fired, which is not a good method for either (a) a survival-horror game, or (b) a game like RE, where ammo is scarce.

I think this would work better if they made a special 2-game bundle with Resident Evil 5.

Also I see the news story on the GTA4 map leak has been taken down. Rockstar sure are being harsh on you guys today icon_razz.gif

I doubt it's real, that box art is terrible. Although I'd still probably buy it as it'd be fun to get Achievements and play the Hulk missions. Oh and online Mercenaries would be fun.

Maybe you should work for gamespot. I remember their review of Metriod Prime 3 citing a negative as the controls 'working too well'. Which is one of the most stupid things I've read. Don't see PC FPS games getting marked down have having accurate mouse controls.

Personally I think the better the controls the better then game. If a game is hard because you are struggling to aim and move, it's busted.

Lol...struggle with the controls...

I think you missed my point, i'm saying the game is too easy with the wiimote, maybe if the zombies were sped-up then it would balance it out, but I prefer aiming with the joystick anyways cuz pointing with the wiimote is fun for about 5 mins before it starts becoming a chore imo.

ANd I see what they're saying about Prime controls, the sensitivity of moving the wiimote is mapped so perfectly to the camera perspective that the slightest movement jiggles samus's head around and in all honesty I found this very nauseating. It's like if I were using a joystick I would actually have to rely on holding the stick still to stop the view from jiggling around instead of just letting go of the joystick and it going into it's default position.

It basically boils down to personal preference cuz they both work very well.

re4 never was a twitch style game, wiimote style controls suit a game like time crisis, whereas a slower, more atmospheric game like re4 is actually enhanced by joystick aiming.

I usually bag out companies for milking games but re4 is just so good that it indeed calls for worldwide pentration on every system, everyone deserves to have played it.The gfx are a bit old hat by now though, even a res bump won't do much to save it on that front though unfortuanetely, i'd be interested to see how cappie polish it.

Oh and i reckon this whole thing is true, capcom know it will sell, so it's not a rumour.....imo.

i really need to grab a hold of this game....better on ps2 or GC??
better on wii?? get both (as on on either GC or ps2 and wii)??

im now cowering in the corner at work waiting to be hit by you all for not playing this game...

I might be wrong about this but didn't they do exactly that with the "Zombies"? I could have sworn they made them faster and gave you less ammo in the Wii version...
