Microsoft reveals exclusive pre-order offer for GTA IV

360 News | Free points enough to sway multi-format owners to the Xbox 360?
Microsoft has announced via a press release that they are offering an exclusive pre-order offer for Grand Theft Auto IV.

Gamers who pre-order GTA IV for the Xbox 360 will get four exclusive GTA IV gamerpics, as well as 500 Microsoft points. Microsoft hasn't confirmed which retailers will be offering the pre-order deal, but has confirmed that the offer is "subject to availability at participating retailers".

This is the real question for me: will anyone pay the $120 price tag when it can be imported for about $70?

I hate this M$ buyout of GTA. Stick with the Playstation version and battle the evil empire!

Feh... same ****, different bucket.

I'm going to enquire about this at the EB I put down my pre-order at, see if I can't wrangle some free points.

Well let's see

Playstation 3 version - the game

Xbox 360 version - the game, achievements, DLC packs, better online. Rumble WITHOUT having to buy new controllers.

And now some Microsoft points thrown in to sweeten the deal.

I'm no Microsoft fanboy, but it shouldn't be hard to choose between the two.

M$ just try and buy there way into anything, not to mention buy there way out of other things...GTA was a PS exclusive first then M$ got it on xbox prob with some massive $$$$ amount, now they are doing it again.....buying your vote...

i have a 360 but i went for the ps3 version in the CE if the extra content is that good ill buy a 360 version as well and just keep my ps3 one in mint condition..

also wait to see some reviews of the game system v system...it will be interesting to see what goes down when this come out.

Despite all the clear advantages of the 360 version, I'm still getting it on PS3... if I knew one person IRL who even owned a 360, let alone someone then willing to pay the release price for GTAIV, I'd change my mind; until then, me (soon) and several mates have pre-orders down on the PS3 version.

good on M$ for making it easier for people to choose, because for that price for the game they at least deserve some bonuses to make it worth while.

Ooh I'll head into EB tomorrow and place a preorder.

I wonder if their $10 off when you preorder can be combined with it and if I can get a refund on my extended warranty.

I have both systems. Getting it on x360 without a doubt mainly due to dlc. So MS did that right.

But whether is worth the rumoured $50 mil, remains to be seen.

its not like everyone who has a ps3 has a 360 and i dont think most casaul players really will take that much notice of it. but anyway lucky 360 owners im still getting it on ps3 and letting my 360 go to waste

EA?
They're pretty evil, right?
Still, for playstation, its time to give something back to microsoft, imagine those poor Xbox one owners who had to wait a while for their copy of gta3, vice city and san andreas. Now we have things to drool over, GOW, dlc for gta, great Live service, Halo, Lost Odyssey, cheaper price. In essence, this generation, one console will barely get you a third of the experience.
Anyways, all major companies are evil- sony, microsoft, EA, Nintendo. Each would gladly step on you, me and the entire gaming community to make some money.

Xbox 360 version - achievements
I really think microsoft should add an achievement to all their games titled "Gloated about achievements to non-caring PS3 owners on an internet message board".

better online.
Proof?

I actually didn't mind having to buy a dual shock 3, I needed a 2nd controller anyway...

In dollar value, how much is 500 Microsoft points?

I asked when I was at my store earlier today and was told they didn't know anything about it. It might still be a bit to early to know for sure.

As for who's buying what version...

I really think the sales count for both versions will be a lot closer than you may think. The news of the more desirable 360 version is only reaching the ears of the hardcore market. The reach of a GTA game spreads far out into casual territory or in other words, the territory of the mindless masses who couldn't give a **** about what we'd consider to be important. To those in the casual market, when they hear GTA, they think Playstation and that fact alone will be enough to keep Sony in the game.

I'm of course hypothesizing here, but I'm not expecting a whitewash in sales figures.

I think it's about $9, so something decent but nothing amazing at the same time.

I was always going to get the Xbox 360 version anyway, for the reasons people have listed above, mainly because of the add on content.

Im shocked though. After logging onto the official Xbox Australia site, according to them the GTA IV Special Edition is sold out completely.

Just did a pre order with Ezygames.com.au, as they seem to be the online store that is still doing pre orders for it. I wouldnt be suprised if they turn around and say they cant full fill my order though.

The Teapot Calling the Kettle Black?

End of the day the Xbox points are valid. The Xbox verison will most likely be the 'pick' if you own both systems.

Well, the devs did boast something like over 100 hours worth of gameplay, didn't they? Can 360's sustain that much uptime? icon_cool.gif

Undoubtably. Just poking fun mate. I'd be an idiot to not admit the 360 version has more going for it.

My question regarding the points was a valid one, not a snide remark or anything, I don't know what the conversion rate is...

Has there been any mention of why exactly Take Two (or whoever decides the price...?) have felt the need to bump up the price to $120 for Australia? I havent bought a game in a while but im pretty sure every other 360 game on release is $100RRP...
