Mass Effect DLC now available

360 News | BioWare brings down the sky.
Microsoft has sent word through that the first in a planned series of downloadable content for Mass Effect is now available.

The new adventure is titled 'Bringing Down the Sky', and introduces a new world inhabited by the Bataraians – as developer BioWare puts it – "a notorious a feared alien race". In the new mission, a Bataraian terrorist group has commandeered a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system and set it on a course to crash into the planet of Terra Nova. As their fully customised Commander Shepard, players are tasked with stopping the asteroid before it impacts with the world.

'Bringing Down the Sky' is set to take around 90 minutes to complete, and also includes a new Mass Effect achievement. The DLC can be purchased for 400 points on the Xbox LIVE marketplace.

Ahh now I just have to get myself some MS Points!

Another reason to play Mass Effect is great.

Just curious, does PALGN review DLC?

Bought it, finished it, quite liked it, but not sure if it was worth it.

I was hoping for a more fleshed out subplot, but all you really get is a longer than usual quest. Their 90 minute estimation was pretty accurate.

^^ Agreed, although I thought it was worth it. But yeah kinda hoped for more of a story. Fairly cool premise for a story though.

So I've already finished the game, can I jump straight into the new quest with my leveled-up dude, do I have to go back to a save from before I entered the final planet, or do I have to start a new game?

Think you need to use your save from before the last planet. Or on your second run through with the character you can go there after you get off the Citadel and start flying around the galaxy.

Yeah you need to be able to access the galactic map from the Normandy, so whether you start a new game and get off the Citadel or load a previous saved game is up to you.

Hopefully the wait between this and the next DLC isnt too long.

Argh I only just started my second play through and I don't have any saves from before the last planet from my first pay through... guess I'll be waiting a while before I get this one :/

Doesn't take long to get off the citadel when you start another play through. Couple of hours if that.

That was something that annoyed me about the end of Mass Effect, I knew when I did the last mission that there were loose ends I hadn't tied up, but I had to choose between either reverting to an old save and losing all the end-game levelling and looting I'd done, or restarting and playing through to the point where the missions came up.

OK, it wouldn't fit with the plot so much, but I preferred the way that Crackdown kept going when I killed the last gang boss, so I could still run around and find orbs etc. If they suddenly offered a fourth island for download, you could just go to the new bridge or whatever with your same dude in your same car and start playing.

DLC was fantastic. Recycled areas with new textures, but it didn't bother me too much. The last area was all new and very cool. Took me two hours - half an hour longer than they said icon_biggrin.gif
