Halo 3 multiplayer update

360 News | DoubleXP weekends! Wow!
Bungie has announced that its been fiddling with the multiplayer element of Halo 3 to come up with two new game modes, double experience points and a bunch of other little tweaks here and there.

The first new game mode, Grifball, should be available right now and will be playable until 8pm GMT on Monday. Created by Burnie Burns of Red vs. Blue fame and tweaked by Bungie, the game pits two teams of four against each other, with a big ball in the middle of the field. The goal, as you would expect, is to run it through your goal, without being decapitated by an enemy's energy sword. Winning teams will received double experience points, which is pretty nifty.

Team SWAT of Halo 2 fame will make its return on the 20th of March, at 8pm GMT. Double experience points are again on offer. In this game, shields and radar will be removed, but at least there will be extra health to compensate. It will end on the 23rd of March, again at 8pm GMT.

Also being tweaked is the Heroic DLC hopper. It has been split into 6v6 DLC Objective, and 4v4 DLC Slayer. Each of these features a variety of gametypes - for Slayer, Team Snipers, Team Rockets, Team BRs, Team Duel and Team Duals, while the Objective variants are made up of Multi Flag CTF, Multi Flag BR, One Flag, Assault, Neutral Bomb Assault and Team King.

Various map exploits have been fixed up and the matchmaking system has received a few tweaks.

In ranked big team battles, the size of a large party has been reduced from seven or more to six or more. In addition, mixed skill parties - those who are spread ten or more levels apart - can also face off against parties that aren't mixed. The reason for these changes is to reduce matchmaking times.

You can read a comprehensive list of the changes at Bungie's site here.

Sounds pretty cool, definitely going to have to chuck Halo in over the weekend.

My memory could be a little off, but wasn't the Herioc Map pack supposed to become free sometime around now?

Hmmmm.... double XP... wonder if this has anything to do with COD4 consistently beating Halo as the number 1 online multiplayer game...

Sounds awesome. I might give it a go if I'm not too busy over the weekend.

Hm, nice. I like the soccer one icon_smile.gif

I guess the balance changes will also affect offline multiplayer, which should improve my games with my friends. Can't complain.
