GTA IV to be about 100 hours long

360 News | We're taking the week off.
Speaking to Videogamer.com a Rockstar spokesperson has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto IV will take approximately 100 hours to finish.

"If you're not in a rush and you answer the phone when it rings it'll take about 100 hours to complete," VideoGamer were told. "It's harder to distinguish between main and side missions - there are loads of both. But there are more main missions than side missions. It's not as clear cut as it used to be because of the phone."

Well that's great news that GTA IV will take around 100 hours to complete, the release date can't come soon enough for me. I'll be trying to take a few days off around release to really get into the game.

People care how long it'll take to complete the game? Really?

I always thought that the Story/Quest length was pretty redundant in the modern GTA titles, because half (or more) of the fun was had in... well, making your own damned fun! Vice City may have taken (hypothetically, I don't know the actual length) 20 hours to complete the missions, but I easily spent 20 times that or more doing my own thing.

And I cannot wait to do that again.

100 hours plus however many more hours we will be farting around ingame doing our own thing.

Hm... I don't like the "if you wait for the phone to ring" precondition to the "100 hours" statement.

Any game can last 100 hours if you hang around long enough. What I care more about is muck-around-iness and replayability - those give much more to a game in terms of lifespan.

I'm not sure he actually meant that physically waiting for the phone to ring would help clock up 100 hours, I think he was more implying that if you did all of the phone missions you would hit that mark.

I'm waiting to see what the soundtrack is going to look like. I would've thought a few tidbits of it would have slipped out by now.

No, that's exactly what he meant. Obviously if you run around, things will pick up a lot quicker, realistically it'll be 20-25 hours to maybe 40 hours at maximum for the story. Of course this time is arbitrary as not everyone will explore the game world exactly the same.

I think 100 hours for GTAIV is a conservative estimate tbh.

I spent well over that playing San Andreas and the majority of that was my own fun. I can't see that changing for GTAIV.

I'll probably spend the same amount of time waging war on gangs and the police.

Sometimes that's a good thing and a bad thing, i mean Hevenly Sword even though it was a great narrative-driven game it could've had some more length to it 6 hrs i think is just too short (but it's quality better than quantity right?). Then there's other games Final Fantasy for example, (which personally isn't my taste), which last around 70 hrs. Great for those into RPG type games of that style.
I know it's a highly anticipated game and it's great to hear that it will be long, but hopefully it doesn't grow stale or uses some boring means to kill time. Although if previous titles are to be seen as a guide I think we will be in for something totally mind-blowing. Other than that I'm really looking forward to experience how expansive this game is, and having a blast, literally. lol

Gotta admit that GTA:SA was the first of the GTA series that I really got into and loved.
However after finally getting out of the original city and discovering that there were three or so other large cities/areas to discover, I almost got scared off thinking "OMG this game is toooo big".

Eventually my attention got taken with another game so I didn't get back into GTA: SA.
But I can't wait to get lost in the city again with GTA IV... Looks like it's gonna be one helluva ride!

Cant wait for this game. 100 hrs is great.

My only concern is the framerate in the videos so far, but I trust Rockstar. It wont stop me enjoying the game of course as it didnt in Mass Effect, but id love it to look as good as it does and run smoothly.

Hope we get to see some game play footage soon, so far ive only seen in game cut scenes.

Also I hope the game runs and looks identical on both systems to prevent fanboy wars. Personally I own both systems, but will be buying this for x360 purely because of the exclusive DLC chapters (and achievements hehe).
