GDC 08: Gears of War 2 announced

360 News | Out in November.
Microsoft has formally announced at their Game Developers Conference 2008 keynote that Gears of War 2 is in development for the Xbox 360.

The game is set for release in November and is exclusive to Microsoft's console. At the conference, Cliff Bleszinski promised that "Gears 2 is going to be bigger, better and far more badass than the first one."

Further information on the game wasn't announced, but a teaser trailer was released, which can be viewed at GameVideos. Once Microsoft provides more information on the game we'll report back.

Good news, though not surprising!

Definitely a first day purchase. I can’t wait! Although I do hope they fix multiplayer and allow for respawns. I wasn’t a fan of having to wait 4+ mins for the game to end after getting killed at the start.

Mate, this summer is all about Gears.

This game has moved up to my #1 game of the year. I have no doubts the campaign will be awesome as they have set the everything up (engine, mechanics etc) in the first game.

What I want is -

1) 4 player online co-op in the single player
2) Matchmaking and a Party system ala COD4, Halo 3 etc
3) More online game modes.

I'll just wait for the inevitable PC prt thanks.

Game = hopeing for awesome.

Trailer = waste of bandwidth. Don't bother people, all it shows is a new way to hold the chainsaw...

Seems like Microsoft is pushing to have some big name games out this year afterall. I'm liking the depth they're showing at the moment...

'It never ends'

An astute observation on reality of franchise gaming. Bravo Mr Fenix.

Just like old times guys <3

The reason I bought a 360 is also the reason I keep it. Dying for this and my god that trailer made me giddy.

And the tech demo is insanely awesome.

4.5 Millions copies sold for GoW 1. I think I can take a blind guess which will.

Although both should be great games.

Can't wait!

Maybe this time we will get an actual climax! Maybe even a satisfying climax!

Seriously, though, Gears was great and I cannot wait. I wonder if the gameplay will still hold up. Personally, I think Uncharted has done the 'cover mechanic' shooting gameplay better than anyone. Will be interested to see if it is refined in any meaningful way.

Also, I hated the grenade throwing. Perhaps they can make it a tad more intuitive?

*giggles* Yay!

^It was all about the blind nade throws in Gears. Slapshakle, Jim and Karai all know how deadly that is through lots of experience by my hands icon_razz.gif

Unsurprising, but still awesome.

I should really get a 360 and stop waiting for shitty ports..

Omg <3, First Gears is my favourite game on the 360 finished it 4 times and played multiplayer for hours.

Can't wait for this game!

I saw "bigger" in the expression, that is a welcome addition. I thought it was a great game but like CoD4, just too short. Single player campaign's are very important to me, and it's single player was a good one.

There is so much to be deadly in this game. Like how it will consume my life and spit it out when Slappy gets his achievement and never talks to me again.

But really, I wonder what the differences will be? Lets hope for a longer campiagn, improved multiplayer servers and a bloody good time.

This game might, just might pry me away from Halo 3.

Gee, forgetting someone much? icon_razz.gif

Anyway I have already posted in the Gears 2 thread that Slappy created in the MS forum, so I won't say much in here other than that I look forward to the game a lot and I fully expect to dedicate another 8 months to the game if necessary for another Seriously... type achievement.

Never liked the first one so I won't like the second one. Pretty lame trailer though but its bound to be a big seller for Microsoft. That will hopefully give Halo 3 and CoD4 a run for its money.
