Ninja Gaiden Black coming to Australia after all?

360 Rumour | Our fingers are crossed.
A few days ago we let you know that Ninja Gaiden Black would not be coming to the Xbox Originals service in Australia. This news came to us courtesy of Microsoft, who we thought were only planning on releasing Sid Meier's Pirates and Black on the service this week.

Well, our beloved forum member ret the roman let us know that Ninja Gaiden Black has appeared on the Xbox Originals service, with a 'coming soon' message (an image can be found in the media panel). So, is the game coming to the service? We'll let you know when we know.

Thanks goes to ret the roman for taking the picture and letting us know about this.

Good job ret the roman for taking the picture. It will be interesting to see if it comes icon_smile.gif. This will be a purchase by me, if it comes that is.

Hope it really is coming, I never had a chance to play Ninja Gaiden so Black would be the perfect way for me to play through it before Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out.

Is NGB worthwhile now if you could play Sigma? I guess this is for anyone with both consoles. Is there anything Black has that Sigma doesn't, except the obvious graphical changes?

Nah, I think Sigma has everything from Black and more but obviously most people with a 360 don't have a PS3 as well.

Actually, sigma has alot of the stuff missing that was in black. According to wikipedia Ninja Gaiden Sigma is basically a reworked version of Ninja Gaiden Black with some changes to it. Contrary to claims of this being the "more complete" version,[69][70][71] almost all of the bonus features from the two previous versions were excluded from this version. Unlockable costumes were reduced to only two, and the old NES and arcade games which can be unlocked previously were eliminated. The introductory movie chronicling the legend of the Dark Dragon Blade and the Dragon Sword was also no longer in the game.

So ur better of with black.

I completely disagree, they added way more than they removed and they tweaked most weapon damage, hardcore fans I know consider it the most refined version. You've also got all of the downloadable content add-ons from the PlayStation Network, not to mention that the HD Sigma version looks every bit as sexy as the screenshots for NG2.

If you have both a PS3 and 360 and you have Sigma for the PS3 (but never had an Orig xbox) there really is no point to getting Black. You can always play the old Nintendo NG games on an emulator. However, if you already had Black I'd say there's enough new stuff in Sigma to warrant a purchase seeing as it's about to be re-released under the PlayStation-Classics (Platinum range) budget label, but only for hardcore fans of the series who will appreciate all of the refinements.

Nah, Bazzy hit the nail on the head. The only advantage Sigma has on Black is that it’s higher res, the rest is personal preference.

Who are these hardcore fans you’re talking about? Anyone on the leaderboards? Anyway, all those people who were karma running back when the original was released considered Black a huge step up - the same wasn’t said about Sigma. Of course, I don’t speak for all, but most of the top players I know consider Black the ultimate version.

A few reasons why...

- Sigma is easier. Deny it all you want but it’s as close to fact as an opinion can get. A survey of the top 100 players which played both versions would back that claim, guaranteed.

- Itagaki had little to nothing to do with Sigma. The man demands perfection, and the end result shows. I’ve clocked a good 700+ hours on Black and never experienced a bit of slowdown. I’ve played Sigma on numerous occasions (no more than 20 hours) and found instances where gameplay wasn’t rock solid. Not a big deal to some but it means the world to those going for karma, or attempting the higher difficulties.

- The 2 best costumes were omitted from Sigma, leaving you no reward for beating ‘Very Hard’ and ‘Master Ninja’, or ‘Eternal Legend’? Whatever the case, 2 awesome costumes were left out.

- On the topic of costumes, I’m pretty sure Sigma doesn’t allow you to change from the one you pick when you start a new game. Feel like a new look? Start a new game.

- Some of the cut-scenes in Sigma are now rendered in-game instead of the FMV that was in Black. Again, it’s subjective, but I prefer the beautifully epic FMV’s. Maybe that’s the reason why...

- The movie theater was also left out of Sigma, so if you wanna see that cool scene again, better play the game.

- The “extra character”, Rachel, is an insult. Very little effort was made bringing her “story” to the game. She feels very tacked on, just like the rest of the additional content.

- Old-school Gaiden not being there is disappointing. It’s nice having it all in the one package. Emulators on your PC just aren’t the same.

- Oh, and Sigma (PAL) doesn’t have human decaps... for shame.

I’m by no means saying that Sigma is a bad game – far from it – it’s an awesome game, it’s just not the “best” version of NG. If visuals are all you care for then Sigma might be for you, however, if you prefer to have what’s listed above, you’ll get a game that looks just as good as (if not better than) a lot of current gen games on the market, all for a lot cheaper than Sigma.

Fingers crossed Aussies get this – decaps and all!

I have, but they've all been low quality web clips so it's hard to compare to what I've seen full screen on my HD set.

I know a lot of xbox NG fans that say they enjoyed Sigma more than the earlier versions, but like you say, most of it is probably personal preference. Things like FMV vs in-game cut-scenes are rather subjective, some prefer the higher quality of FMVs like yourself, others think HQ FMV breaks the immersion of the game once you're taken back to the inferior looking real-time game engine. Personally I prefer the in-game engine but lament the lack of the movie theatre options that black had.

Regardless, NG:B coming to live arcade is a good thing for those who either don't have a PS3 or the original xbox. I just hope it doesn't suffer from any slowdown, I haven't dragged out my copy of NG:B to test on my 360 yet.

Well think on this, Black will be emulated by the 360, thus you will still see potential slowdown and various glitches.

Sorry to spoil anyones hopes, but Ninja Gaiden Black is not rated by the OFLC so I doubt its coming this week.

If the game is being sold in the country, dare I say the publisher will get a bit of a shock when the Australian government slaps them with a big fine.

Also, didn't Microsoft say we were not getting it? Id say the picture is just someone at MS being lazy and not taking down the pic off Xbox live.

yeah we already went through that, if someone bothered to submit it, i'm sure it would pass as it is rated 15 in the uk
