Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 more expensive than X360 version

360 News | Why?
A post on Australian blog screenplay caught our attention today, with journalist Jason Hill noticing that the Australian PlayStation 3 version of Devil May Cry 4 is $10 more than the Xbox 360 version.

Devil May Cry 4 will retail for $99.95 on the Xbox 360 and the exact same game on the PlayStation 3 is priced at $109.95. Is it a case of the Blu Ray costing $10 more to manufacture or something else? We'll let you know when we know.

The business model. Take Assassin's Creed as an example as it sold 2:1 on the 360 vs PS3. You will sell through more on the larger installer base. Publishing the game on the PS3 is less viable atm so it has a higher RRP to recop the costs.

ah, i just thought it was due to being more expensive to produce.

You may have a point there Leon, though why haven't we seen this before? Or have we? This is the first time I've heard of this happening, and it just seems plain unfair for the consumers (us).

I can't decide whether to get it on 360 or ps3 though. 360 is too loud and hot for me now. But its strange that it is more expensive..

they are both identical except ps3 has no load times.

Because PS3 games are generally more expensive, it's not as weird to see a $110 PS3 game as it is to see a $110 xbox game. Stupid, I agree, but that's commercialism for you.

Anyhoo, my personal jury is still out on this game. I'll have to read some reviews and watch a gameply video or two to see if it falls within range of my tastes.

Oh well im not gonna get it anyway.

I've seen a few games with different pricing actually. PS3 owners paid more in all accounts.

yeh i have seen it, but then you look at another store they have both platforms for the same price so thats all that will happen some stores will have a higher price for ps3 then other stores have same prices. meh

Cost prices are, strangely enough, always higher on PS3 than on 360. There are rare cases where games on both are the same price but it's most of the time PS3 being more expensive.

Absolutely. While people continue to support this this kind of pricing arrangement it will persist. The argument for higher production values is null and void - it's Sony's responsibility to remain competitive in the business of media distribution. We don't need another Gamecube.

I find this funny as the release list on PalGN clearly showed a $10 difference between the 2 formats before this article. So why suddenly is this being made an article when you've had this information for a while? icon_lol.gif

^ It was provisional, not confirmed until yesterday when Activision sent out an updated release schedule.

Its been $109.95 on EB site for ages too.

But i also find it strange, but good, how the collectors editions of this game are priced the same as the standard edition. Im not totaly decided on whether i will keep this game or not, but if i do i would want a collectors edition. I hope that if it doesnt appeal to me (never played a DMC game before) i will be able to return it to eb for a refund.

Well Myer has both versions advertised at $99.

I'm surprised that this story wasn't published sooner. Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 are also in the same boat.

ps3 games are usually price higher from what i've seen (and bought).. just thought it was the norm, but it would be nice if an investigation was done into it

great post Leon, u make a valid point
however, arn't the majority of games around $110 until a little after a year of a console being on the market.
i think this was so on xbox360, cant remember

Not to knock palgn, or more specifically Luke(i'd die a saw V death for Luke), but this is hardly news. It's newsworthy for a 360 game to be dearer then a ps3 game, sure, but not the other way round.

That is why, I am always going to import. Its going to be a million years before Aussie prices level out with American prices or so.

With the exception of MGS4. If they put that for $120 in aust Id still buy it. ^.^

I thought that was pretty much normal for most PS3 games - most places I go to will have something like Assassins Creed or an EA Sports game for $109 on Xbox360, and $119 for the PS3.

Considering I then walk an extra 2 minutes to go to my preferred store and buy the exact same game on PS3 for $89 or maybe $99... I'm starting to believe that its the retailers screwing us. ...or maybe there are some official Sony pricing rules.. and the store I like isn't following those and choosing to make a smaller profit on each game but hoping the cheaper prices bring more sales?

of course their screwing us over lol , EB are one of the worst offenders , but i doubt sony themselves said to pay that much

well both versions look to have the same RRP in the uk 49.99 pounds and both versions appear to have the same RRP in the USA also (don't get me started about the aussie dollar and games icon_evil.gif ).

So why? indeed.

This is exactly what happened all through last gen with Xbox and PS2, the Xbox consumers being the smaller market usually had to pay more for multiplatform games and usually got them later. Now it's reversed.

Considering PS3 games aren't region locked at all last I looked I don't see why all these complaining people don't just order US copies. Also most Activision games aren't locked for 360 either.

Fetidchimp: they were talking about the difference in price for the UK a day ago on Kotaku and other blogs, a 10 pound difference which is a lot more of a burn than 10 Aussy dollars.

I realise that.
I was just comparing this games RRP being equal in other countries, not what we pay against the pound for games.
I don't own a ps3, so i'm not complaining about me personally having to pay more, i'm just wondering why we seem to be on the end of these decisions more often, and beyond that, people shouldn't have to look to other countries to get games that are available here .

UK pay about the same as us on current exchange rates for games. If we weren't strapped to PAL, we could be paying less but i assume the price points are pretty much locked in now regardless. ah, oh well.
