In the trailer, you may notice Michael Walter and Jung Park – the backup from the first Rainbow Six Vegas – in action again. Game Designer Philippe Therien has shed some light on the situation while speaking with CVG. After creating their character, known only in the game by the name of Bishop, players will again be supported by Walter and Park, because previous team leader Logan Keller is being ambushed in Mexico.
Therien also details that Vegas 2 begins five years before the events of the first game, and how this ties in with the original's cliffhanger ending. "Our story defines a whole new conflict that will have a profound effect on the events of Rainbow Six: Vegas and its sequel. The first mission is set in the past, and you'll get to understand why Gabriel turns traitor. Then you'll see what happens while the original team is in Mexico. You'll finally go beyond the original timeline and see what happens after Gabriel escapes the crash," he explains.
As for the ending, Thrien says that there won't be another cliffhanger this time. "Don't worry. The sequel has a very satisfying ending. We're closing the story with a bang."
