Sega has formally announced via a press release that they are publishing the official game based on the Beijing 2008 Olympics. The title will be developed by Eurocom and is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The game will contain 35 events from the Olympic Games and will allow players to compete in the official venues of the Olympics, including the Beijing National Stadium. The game will include online gameplay, which is a first for an Olympic title.

Beijing 2008 will set a new standard for sports games in this genre.” commented Hugh Binns, Director of Eurocom Development Ltd, developers of Beijing 2008. “With a huge number of events, innovative control schemes to benefit new and experienced gamers, online multiplayer modes providing hours of entertainment and stunning high definition graphics, Beijing 2008 will be a fantastic experience.”

“After the successful launch of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, we are delighted to announce the official video game of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games,” stated Gary Knight, Marketing Director of Sega Europe Ltd. “Combining an enjoyable game with a truly global sporting license will provide a fantastic sports game experience for gamers everywhere”.

I wonder if there'll be any events based on human rights abuses? The hundred yard dash (over the bodies of dissidents) anyone? For that matter, will they even put a sky in the game - or will it be like a return to the 32-bit era where everything just disappears into fog (or, in this case smog) after 20m?

It would be funny if the Mario & Sonic game actually turned out to be better. icon_smile.gif

So basically Sega are making a competing title to one of their already existing games? And then not releasing it on Wii, the platform that would obviously have the greatest chance at selling this game?

They're so stupid. So, so stupid.

Ouch well at least we know how Sega treat the Wii in relation the the game styles, not like we needed it any clearer but they delivered on it.

Sunrider, it's not even a possibilty that this game will top Mario & Sonic, that game is the best party game I've played on the Wii.
