Phones and public speaking. I also have a fear of roaches and spiders but I think it's pretty mild.

For me, the rule used to be if my feet can reach the bottom and my head is poking out of the water, all is good.

Not quite irrational, but i always have to pick the right moment to use a payphone in public, hate people listening in (not that my conversations are worth listening to).
My main legitimate fear is a fear of height.

BUt anything deeper starts the feelings? That's interesting (not being sarcastic). I could understand being over the ocean, the Marinara Trench pic on the first page being a reason why, but I'd think still being able to discern the bottom would make everything OK.
But then again I'm scared of taking the safest trvale option in the world, so what do I know.

To put some context into it, this is me in the water. I don't really swim and can kind of float. I have no problems in a boat or in some sort of underwater aquarium. As long as oxygen is in easy reach, I'm fine.

Uncle dunked me in a lake, ended in cpr, refused to go into any body of water with a friggen stupid person (ie anyone, even if I'm related to them) ever since. Good news being rest of the family hates him now as well so I don't have to hide my obvious desire to beat the man senseless.
Otherwise, yeah, bees, as during the 1997 AFL final I decided to (as a plucky 12 year old) dress up the front yard with Saints colours (yeah, it turned out emo) and suitably in nailing them to the fence pissed off quite a few of them. Queue me running down the road screaming followed by said bees, doubling around the block and sneaking back into the house via going into the neighbours, jumping the fence and breaking into my window to ensure they did not see me again.
Bees also got vengeance as to wash away my tears I hosed the crap out of anything out the front and pissed them off good and proper. Still, my first instinct is to jump and flee in the opposite direction.
This coming from a bloke who was gardening, saw a brown snake, put the spade down, grabbed a shovel and beat the shit out it before returning to said gardening, sighing, and then grabbing the shovel again to remove the bits of the corpse. Because so help me, if you screwed with my bushel of peas it meant war.

I am terrified of Open Water/the beach. I haven't gone swimming in the deeper parts in years now. I can walk across the shore and get up to my knees but any deeper and I get anxious (and I already have some anxiety issues anyway). I will try to get in there one day though.
Also, I highly dislike sharks, and this is likely because I used to obsess over them and read/study about them for ages.
Oh yeah, I also don't like tight spaces. Anything else on this planet though and I'm pretty much a fearless psychopath. Just ask the truck that I hit 2 years ago. _________________

Addy is right about the balloons. They are are unpredictable.
I'm not sure why I freak out about metal coat hangers. They just make my skin crawl, and I can't be near them. _________________

Makes perfect sense, there is a distinct difference in a syringe/needle and a tattoo gun. You also go into both with different mindsets.

Watched Jaws when i was little, from then on i was convinced that a shark was going to pop up through the drain in the bath tub .

I fell into a swimming pool when i was 3 years old, i was not a huge fan of swimming pools or cold water after that. Actually didn't learn how to go under water until i was about 9 years old (and even then it was only because the water was HEATED).
Attended a friends birthday party when i was 12, involved a bit of pool action of which i was able to partake in, as by that time i was actually capable of walking in the shallow end at that point. One of the parents decided to pick me up and throw me in the deep end....... i freaked the hell out, let me tell you!

That really reminds me when i was a kid and we had a swimming pool, whenever i would get out of the pool i would hurry up cause i felt like a shark was going to get me before i would get out hahah. Sounds stupid but yeah always gave me tension! _________________

Yeah, I was convinced once when I was a kid that a great white would fly out from the toilet while I piss and bite my dick off.

I have a massive fear of Dogs, I turn ghost white when I see one. It's been like this ever since I was child. I have no bad experience with dogs, just a pure natural/instinct kind of fear. _________________

I've actually been run down and bitten by a guard dog. I think I was the perfect age where I wasn't old enough to remember it clearly but not old enough for it to leave an impression on me as I still love dogs.

I'm not a fan of public speaking, but I don't freak out about it - it's more an aversion. Same thing goes for spiders and roaches. I can't sleep if I see one in the house, I worry it'll crawl on my face.
I think the only thing that well and truly freaks me out is the realisation that I'm going to die someday. _________________

There's quite a few people here that don't like deep/open water. I grew up with Swimming and Surfing as my go to sports, but when it comes to any physical activities on land, I'm absolutely terrible at them.
Oh and if you live in Sydney (and general advice to anyone about Sydney Harbour), don't take a dunk in the harbour. Not only is it filthy, it's got quite a few sharks. See quite a few to and from work (I take the ferry to Manly), but not to worry! It also has dolphins!

German Sheppards & Rottweilers = no problem..... its the little poodles which have me cowering like a girl . Somewhat joking there, i always tend to make sure that there is a safe distance between myself and the dogs that are being walked around my local oval.
I was knocked over by the family german sheppard when i was really little (about 4 y/o or so). I was lucky that i wasn't mauled, one good thing that my dad did was great the pets with respect and they never acted out.
