Eh, Sony has given Ueda and co a ridiculous amount of freedom and financial support, and the guy has had nothing to show for six years of hard work. I can only assume the game is halfway between here and development hell, the guy is getting on, a perfectionist, and is probably tired of the stress and frustrating of working on projects like these for so long.
Assuming it's true, that is. No idea where he'd end up, so I can only assume indy. Nobody else is going to give him as much freedom as Sony has. _________________

And now The Last Guardian's executive producer, Yoshifusa Hayama, has resigned to join a new studio called Bossa. Additionally, Sony has put a gag order on the whole company in regards to discussing Ueda's current position with Team Ico/Sony.
I'd take that as more or less confirmation he's gone. _________________
