Say goodbye to the GCN ports and byebye to the stand. It's now designed to be horizontal. New bundles also coming for Christmas.

Umm... yeah.

Wait, is this Wii U?

...Oh no...

Where's this news coming from? Do you have a link?

EDIT: Just saw the Eurogamer "watermark." Here and here. Cutting backwards compatibility? What the hell, Nintendo? Terrible redesign.

Yeah, this is really going to help reduce the confusion about whether the Wii U is a new console on just a Wii redesign, isn't it Nintendo? icon_rolleyes.gif

Also, surely a 'family edition' needs more than one controller.

Woah woah woah... is this replacing the current model(s) on the market, or will it be sold alongside like the different models of 360/PS3?

Most likely sold alongside until the old models run out of stock and then the redesign is the only model available.

No GameCube ports?

I can't play Mario Kart on that. I'm terrible with the wheel. >.<

I have the same feeling, but It's not too hard to transition to the Classic Controller.

This new model itself? I can see it selling to those who like to buy one generation behind (I have a friend who does it, he plays the GameCube a lot), or the expanded audience who haven't been playing games for long or a new to it. I have the feeling that it's aimed at even further expanding the audience.

I would say it will be sold alongside as well given it says "Family Edition" on the box.

This is curious as Sony has just done exactly the same thing with the mono-speakered PSP model.

What is this, cheap knock-off of your own hardware year?

Redesign? I swear it looks (from the front) exactly the same as the current one?

Dog move removing Gamecube titles. They just removed one of the best reasons to actually own a Wii. I know its the main reason I have one.

It seems more angular to me.

It is a redesign because the flaps housing the gamecube stuff are gone, and the little dint in one corner for the stand is also gone. And they rotated the logo!

And... and ... and... they added rubber protectors on the bottom. Truly amazing work!

I think its design is a lot better for a "family edition". Kids can't really knock it over when it's already on its side.

Mine was already on its side, and always has been lol. So has my 360, PS3 and PS2... I'm not a fan of vertical consoles.

I agree with the above, having the Gamecube controller ports on the console is good, but, people who buy the console now would struggle to find games, controllers, memory cards & anything else Gamecube related. In Australia, while the Gamecube was alive, it was getting abit hard then.

If you don't know your losing out, are you really? Chances are, no!

does this mean another drop in the price of the original design, until they're all cleared out?

More likely the original will not drop and this new one will be the cheaper option.

At work, these new Nintendo Wii consoles are in stock. They come with Mario Kart & retail for the same price, so most people wouldn't realise any difference. The older ones (That had GC support) are now listed as deleted lines. So, anyone interested in the older ones, should look at picking one up, sooner, rather than later!

^ Where do you work? Can anyone from other stores/chains confirm whether they're deleted there too?
