Jarrod and Benza have basically nailed it. GTAIV created this absolutely brilliant world - I mean, I had entire sessions playing the game where I did nothing but look around their crazily detailed in-game internet, how many games can boast something like that? - but then placed a pretty crappy game on top of it. The car physics were my worst offender, they were awful, but also the mission structure (as mentioned, repeating driving to missions is really dumb), the controls were at times quite awkward, and, again, the story tried to come off as this great piece of literature but in reality was just a boring mess. Had all of these elements been combined with an average city, and not under the famous GTA banner, the game would have failed immensely.
I would like GTA V to be a bit less serious. Not Saints Row style, but just a bit less dull. We don't need to wield giant purple dildos, but flamethrowers, chainsaws, swords? That would satisfy me. The cars don't need to drive like Mario Karts, but they shouldn't feel exactly like my Nissan Pulsar, either. Keep the realism but just sprinkle in a bit of wackiness and we're golden.
Oh, and make it good.
Hell, scratch that. Just make it good full stop. Forget the other little details, do whatever you want, as long as its a good game. _________________

I would love to see a return to the top down format of the first 2 GTA games (hell even a reboot/remake would be sweet).
Man o man those games were fun. And with the popularity of phone/tablet games I think it could be quite popular if developed well. Realistically I suppose this would only ever be done as some kind of off-shoot or add-on to the whole 3D sand box approach.

I liked GTA 4. Like a lot but at this point I would prefer Saints Row more than a realistic take. I thought the cars handled fine and the shooting was fine. The story had some highs and some lows. It was just missing something, that the last GTA's had.
I have no doubt it will be a good game even great but I don't know how fun it will be.

This. The first one was presented like a game show. Every sequel since has tried to go the serious business route.

And this.
I'll also stand by my claim that Red Dead Redemption was the game GTA4 should have been. Everything Jarrod complained about up there with GTA4? RDR did the opposite. _________________

Everything about RDR was about being a cowboy. If you don't like being a cowboy that game was horrible. Also that problem about driving to missions was 100x worse in RDR when you had to press A ever 3 seconds to go anywhere.

it was on DS and PSP, you should check it out it was pretty great. If you've got the choice I'd recommend it on the DS over the PSP, it had some of the cleverest implementations of the touch screen I've seen. _________________

As far as I'm concerned. GTA 4 was an amazing tech demo. But not much more. |
My feelings exactley. I was blown away by the enviroment, and just how well they managed to make it appear like a living, breathing city... and yet, I spent way moer time just rampaging and buggering around with cheats, playing with the euphoria tech, and so-on than actually playing through the game proper. The linear, story driven part of the game just didn't hold my interest - the sandbox did.
Which sits in stark constrast to the previous 3D GTA titles, where I'd only really start pissfarting about in the gameworld once I'd finished the storyline.
Hoping that they manage to make the next one as engaging as the earlier titles - but if not, I'll still probably be happy with SR3
Edit: Whoops, had that window open way too long before posting... _________________

I can't speak for anyone else but for me that's a huge pile of BS.I hate it because's it's boring and so bloody annoying.I'm never one to hate on anything because it's cool to or because it's popular.
Anyway let me refrase shit.Technically GTAIV is a great game. But for my personal tastes it's a shit game. People say it's kind of like the Getaways which isn't surprising because I hate those games as well. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

Some analyst thinks it'll be digital only
But I REALLY hope it is like GTA4, physics wise. I loved the "realism" of GTA4, from the weapon physics, movement, car handling etc. I don't want it to turn into basically a Saints Row in GTA form. Saints Row is good for the crazy stuff, but I want a more realistic game with GTA. Just my personal opinion, I loved GTA4 though, the only one I actually like.
