Oh cool, they've taken the visual style of Deus Ex and 'augmented' it with 'Press X to win' gameplay! Genius!
May be some mindless fun, I guess - not expecting much more than that. _________________

It's a bit unfortunate for Syndicate that Deus Ex was released quite recently, but competition is good. Personally, I'm more interested in this game than Dues Ex, but it looks to me as though they'll both offer similar but slightly different experiences. _________________

What? No. It's unfortunate that this game was made using the Syndicate IP - that's the unfortunate thing here. From everything that has been shown of this title, the perspective and aesthetic are the only real similarities between this and Deus Ex. This looks to be an entirely linear FPS affair - DE:HR actually offers choice and variation in how you play.
Comparing the two is kind of like comparing Die Hard 4 to Pulp Fiction. _________________

I'm not sure if it was more the narration, but that was rather tedious. Looks like the recent Deus Ex without all the interesting (stealth) bits. _________________

There was a bit of stealth in there, where the player was passing off as one of the rival syndicate's customers. Until he accidentally set off an alarm, anyway. _________________

That wasn't stealth though, that was fluff about tricking the security system so you could enter. Everyone the player came across went 'oh no, bad guy' before getting shot in the face... _________________

I have no previous love for the syndicate IP and thought the original trailer looked pretty fun.
But fuck me dead that was boring. It's completly put me off the game. _________________

So, the first trailer/announcement made me feel that this is terrible use of the Syndicate IP, but hey at least the trailer looked flashy and whatever.
This, however, has me agreeing with Benza. It looks so damn boring, like a run-of-the-mill FPS with crummy FOV and crappy looking gunplay.
If it looked at least as open and varied as Deus Ex then I'd be on board, but not now. _________________

I'm at least vaguely amazed that they've made 'press a button to force someone into violently taking their life' a salable feature. _________________

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets RCd now. _________________

If they called it 'another shooter', it wouldn't sell. While turning the series into an FPS is a slightly odd move, I can see why they're doing it. Firstly, it gives them an interesting, well established world to work with, and secondly, brand names sell products. They've already labelled the game as a reboot, rather than an actual sequel to Syndicate Wars, and I think they're perfectly justified in doing this. _________________

When I look at this now, all I see is C&C Renegade...

Ah, Renegade! I actually really liked that game back when it was released, I still have the CD. It did pretty well with the critics too. Hopefully Syndicate will turn out well. _________________

I'd say 'pretty well' is being a bit generous - it averaged a 7.5 and was consistently criticized for being buggy and bland =/
Renegade was a massive disappointment for me, I found it roughly as boring as this trailer looks. Considering the potential of the idea, that is saying a lot. I mean, C&C meets Battlezone? I get a half-chub just typingthat. Le sigh. _________________

That says more against most games then it does for syndicate. _________________

I don't see how it looks boring.
The guy running through it is going really slow for starters and explains it in the most boring monotone voice, but its really no different to many other shooters. It has a few neat features, I liked how he froze the glass in order to curve a bullet through it to destroy the lock. The visual style appeals to me as well having just played Deus Ex.
I won't buy it for full price on release but will get it down the track when it drops down. _________________
