Me and my housemate were discussing Apples MobileMe settings where you can remotely lock your phone or wipe its data.
After playing with it a bit more today, we realized that if someone was to steal my phone, all they would have to do is go into settings and delete the MobileMe profile and then MobileMe is useless.
Am I missing something here? Can I lock the settings so they can't be deleted?
It all seems a little dumb, true Apple style. _________________

That's why you put a passcode on your phone, then they can't get in to delete the profile.

Yeah, but pass codes are annoying. _________________

Howso? They take about a second to input. And without it anyone could just connect your iPhone to any computer and reformat it. The only way to properly secure your phone is to put a passcode on it.

But can't they reformat it even if it's got a passcode? _________________

Apparently only with the computer it was last synced to. There are a lot of people who supposedly find iPhone's with a passcode on them and they have no way of using it.

A good practice is to 'name' your device under My Computer and include your driver's license number. That way, Police will be able to ID you ASAP if the device gets found and handed in by someone honest.

Doesn't MobileMe use the phone's IMEI number to lock it to that particular MobileMe account? I'm near-certain that you can remote-wipe a phone you've associated with your account even if an attacker removes the MobileMe details from the phone itself. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman
