my slim has been working fine since i had to replace my RRODed pro; only problems i've had have been with DLC and the likes (mainly due to me not currently having decent internets)

Isn't it prone to completely screwing your discs if it's bumped whilst running?

Yeah but what console really is safe if it is moved around while a disc is spinning?

Well obviously it isn't smart to move a console when there is a disc spinning, but I was under the assumption that these were extremely volatile.

The slim version of the Xbox 360 is still a very good console. Sure, the heating and ventilation has improved, the Red Ring of Death has basically become a distant memory and the black is slick. But, Microsoft have done one thing I think should be mentioned: the inclusion of an optical port on the back of the console.

The need to use that silly adapter that was included with the official Xbox 360 HDMI cable is no longer required.

I havn't read many instances of people having RROD issues with their slim consoles, only you still have to be wary.... it's still a lucky dip in regards to how long the dvd drive will last in the console. I have read several complaints about the dvd drive failing. But as with anything it could be an isolated case here and there, i know my dvd drives in my previous consoles have all had different lifespans.

My jasper unit is still going ok nearly 2 years after acquiring it, even though it stopped being able to tell if some game discs were games and reading them as movies 6 months into owning the unit (started early 2010 - AVP, The Bigs 2 and UFC 2010).

I don't want to jinx my current consoles (running the Jasper + a 2006 turned 2009 refurb unit), but i'd love to upgrade to a slim at some stage.

Yeah Fetid the Slims a great little console. I've had mine for about 5 months now and the only problem I had was Oblivion freezing every few hours or so. Which is actually Oblivions fault most likely.

As for the disc-spinning problem, not sure of its validity but just take extra care to have your console somewhere stable. Fortunately xbox cords disconnect at the join bit when yanked, rather than the ye olde consoles, which when yanked by the controller would leap into the heavens.

I want to upgrade to the Slim as well. Just for the quieter engine and slicker design and also for the 250GB harddrive so I can install everything. It looks very good, but the pricing is still too high if you ask me. Once it gets below the $400 mark for good, I think then it will be worth it.

went and got one, transferring savegames and files was a long and arduous task, but i got there in the end....seems like a good bit of gear but i have only been using it to redownload all my add ons so far
Had to leave it going all night for that, one nice side effect of getting it, is that the last thing in the house that need a cable, is gone....wooo no mo cables

Great news. My Xbox 60GB just died a week ago and I'm in the market to get a slim as well?

Probably looking to get a new slim from GAME at the moment.

My Elite (purchased on their day of release) died recently after 3.5 years, and I upgraded to the slim.

It's a much nicer console overall. The disc tray is whisper-quiet when running. Even quieter than an older 360 idling without a disc in the tray. The power and eject buttons are touch sensitive (like launch PS3s) and each make a cute little musical chime when touched. Haven't had any technical problems with it at all. Hoping it will last me until the end of the console's lifespan (it's my sixth Xbox 360).

Sixth? Damn man. I've only ever gone through two, and that's already too much for a loyal consumer to have to go through. But six? Microsoft, for shame.

Is the disc tray sensitive? Do they slightly scratch discs even without touching or bumping the console like some of the older Xbox 360s? I wish Microsoft made their console have the "slot" insert for their discs rather than the tray design choice.

The everyday price of the Xbox 360 250GB Slim Console at JB Hi-Fi is $399. Go buy one.

Like I said, bit steep... dollar less still might as well be a clean $400. I saw the 250GB for $350 on Big W's website with free postage back in February and I regret not picking it up because since then there hasn't been a better deal.

I got to say if you are not interested in Kinect at all and the only thing you want is a xbox 360 bundle well you will be struggling to find one. Seriously its all Kinect i think the only one i can find is the JB one and that just has assassins creed 2 + hdmi cord +250 gig model for 449.... Lucky tho when i got mine i think about 1-2 weeks ago ebgames has a good bundle 4 games + 250 gig model for 448.

If anyone is interested the games were:

Assassin's Creed
Far Cry 2
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 GOTY Edition
Ghost Recon: Advanced War Fighter 2

I just wish more kinect less bundles would come..

I bought my Halo Reach Special Edition 250gb Slim on a whim back in October 2010 i think when i saw it discounted at my local Harvey Norman ($500, RRP was $550 but i sold the copy of the included Halo Reach game for $50 so it really came to $450 for the console with 2 wireless controllers). I was using a 3-year-old Pro console prior to that but there wasn't really any issue with it (except the noise of it which was getting annoying), i just felt like a change icon_razz.gif And it was also good to get 2 extra controllers and also built-in wireless.

I've had no issues with the Slim since, but i've kept the Pro around just in case something does happen to it. The Reach version is a grey/silver matte finish too so no 'dust-magnetism' issues either! It may be worth checking out your local Harvey Norman or Dick Smith stores for this version in case they too are clearing out old console stock.

I see stores advertising the various bundle deals, no clue on stock levels though. Even i get confused with different stores offering different variations eg: Slim console w/ 4gb, Slim console w/250gb etc, then adding games, including kinect but not the 250 gb hdd, and the opposite including the 250gb hdd but not kinect.

When i am ready to upgrade, i'll be looking for a barebones console including the 250gb hdd, i don't want to pay an extra $150 for a separate hdd.... well at least not until i'd fill the supplied 250gb hdd first.

I purchased Kinect a few weeks ago so i don't need to get it in a console bundle.
