How can there not be a general Diablo III thread yet?!

So Actiblizzard had their quarterly earnings call last night. Word from Mike Morhaime (Blizzard CEO) is that they plan an external beta this year and are hoping to have the game out before 2012.

Hyped!

I am really hyped for it but the more i think about it and the more i search the net for it the more i realise its a long way off being released. Granted its day 1 purchase from me but yeah its tough waiting for the game... My god i can't tell you the hours i spent playing number 2 arghh.

Yeah knowing Blizzard it'll likely get delayed, but I feel like they're under a bit of pressure from Activision to release it as soon as possible.

If they're thinking about an open beta this year though, they have to be nearly done with the story, cut scenes and assets. It should just be working on the balance and bug fixing by then.

easily my most anticipated pc release, can't even begin to imagine how long i spent playing this game. I remember i used to get dad to rent it out from video ezy for me and my brother, during the glory days of when video ezy still stocked pc games for rental. eventually he got tired of renting it out and figured hed payed retail for the game at least three times - seriously rented every weekend for a year straight - so one day he just decided not to return it and told them he did and they must have lost it, lol dad was cool like that.

would have spent thousands of hours on the game replaying through the story with each class on all the difficulties. and that was BEFORE i'd even discovered battle.net or started on LOD. still boot it up from time to time for a hit of nostalgia, for what its worth, it can still hold its own against most modern games today. diablo <3.

and yes it's a long way off, but it doesn't phase me. I'm happy for blizzard to take as long as they need to, they never fail to dissapoint. god forbid activision pressure them into putting it out early and giving us a game which isn't of blizzards full intentions, i will personally fly over to the us and set bobby koticks house on fire.

No interested in beta. Want the game to be as fresh as possible when it hits retail.

See this is why i don't look for more info about Diablo 3 cause the best case it comes out at the end of the year. For me thats agessss away worst case next year.... Also this is why i want to buy the blizzcon thing because they just give out so much info about it. There was one bit of info i loved here:

Info about Artisans Part 1

and

Info about Artisans Part 2

Info about Artisans Part 3 final

Also if no one has heard anything about runes or what they do they really need to check out:

Part 1 explaining about Runes

Part 2 explaining about runes

All this info came from Blizzcon and this is why i will be getting the next one. I will wake up to watch the 12 hours live stream icon_biggrin.gif Bye bye download limit lol

I could just go on and on but damn it man i need to keep my excitement level down because i know its a long way off arghhh

Ouch it's $40 for the virtual ticket to Blizzcon, or is there a free stream as well?

SOLD!

No... just kidding... well maybe... probably not...

I'm guessing Blizzcon's going to have a lot more D3 content this year. I might have to start watching it too.

I've "attended" both 2009 and 2010 virtual events, and the price is well worth it if you enjoy all three blizzard franchises. You pretty much get access to all the arenas at any time, and can also access the presentations on demand if you miss something.

The one thing you do miss though if you don't watch the live feeds is the discussion shows in between panels. Unfortunately for 2010 I could only watch the on demand stuff due to work. They're okay, but not too important (they basically discuss the panels that have just happened, talk to guests and blizzard team members, and also walk around the exhibition looking at stuff)

Well, I'd say that's why grim started this here thread.

A shareholder's meeting revealed that an external beta is slated for ~ July-September (3rd Calender Quarter) and Bashiok on the forums has said that this will go for about 3 months.

So hopefully, we'll all get some sort of Open Beta access ala-SC2, and by the usual November launch period, we'll have a release on our hands.

Otherwise, Blizzard will have nada to show for 2011!

Well, I'd say that's why grim started this here thread.

Yeah I made the thread because we finally got some sort of release date, plus word of the beta. I didn't realise it was gonna be 3 months long. That's quite a while.

I just remembered to update my beta profile since I've now upgraded my machine. If you want to get D3 early, make sure you're opted in!

^ Is anyone else disappointed in regards to the technical aspect of the graphics? They look 'nice' but rather simple... almost WoW-ish. I was expecting a more serious tone.

The landscapes definitely look rather bland, but I saw elsewhere supposedly the video is a leak. I'll reserve judgement until I've actually got hold of the game.

I was hoping it would be more like Diablo 1 (I can't get enough of dungeons, crypts, etc) but #3 seems more like #2. I'm all for variety, but as grim pointed out, the landscapes do look rather bland.

Graphically I cant think of any Blizzard game that has blown me away (besides their CGI which is amazing). They dont look bad, SC2 looks nice, but its nothing ground breaking. I actually remember being disappointed with Diablo 2 graphics when it launched, but you soon forget about that once you get into the game.

Part of the reason has got to be that they seem to do a good job at scaling games to suit a lot of different PCs specs, in order to maximise sales. They are very good at this.

So im not expecting Diablo 3 to blow me away visually either.

Honestyl I also think it would be pretty hard for a 'top-down' kind of game to blow you away visually.
