|
Release Date: 19 May 2011
Platforms: PS3 and 360
| Quote: | Los Angeles, 1947.
Amid the post-war boom of Hollywood's Golden Age, Cole Phelps is an LAPD detective thrown headfirst into a city drowning in its own success. Corruption is rampant, the drug trade is exploding, and murder rates are at an all-time high. In his fight to climb the ranks and do what’s right, Phelps must unravel the truth behind a string of arson attacks, racketeering conspiracies and brutal murders, battling the L.A. underworld and even members of his own department to uncover a secret that could shake the city to its rotten core.
Using groundbreaking new animation technology that captures every nuance of an actor's facial performance in astonishing detail, L.A. Noire is a violent crime thriller that blends breathtaking action with true detective work to deliver an unprecedented interactive experience. Search for clues, chase down suspects and interrogate witnesses as you struggle to find the truth in a city where everyone has something to hide. |
| Quote: | Play as Cole Phelps
Cole joined the United States Marine Corps or USMC for short in 1938 when he was 18. He fought at the Battle of Okinawa where he won the Silver Star in 1945. At Okinawa, it is said that he did things there that he isn't too happy about doing. Following the war, he was honorably discharged from the Corps and returned State side and joined the LAPD probably shortly after.
Working for the LAPD, Phelps discovered that Los Angeles was not what it seemed to be. It was a city full of crime and corruption, and Phelps now has to fight these things, since he is one of the few people that still believes in justice. He starts as regular beat officer, but the department quickly note that he has talent as an investigator and promote him to Detective, dealing with traffic, arson, vice and homicide offenses, tussling with new partners each time. Cole then started to work on the most notorious crimes in the city, by finding evidence at the crime scene and interrogating suspects, witnesses or another person related to the case. Using his skills, Phelps worked on all kinds of cases, ranging from solving murders to fighting the drug trade in the city. As he solved more crimes, Cole started to learn more about the criminal underworld of Los Angeles and how close many of his colleagues and superiors were to it. Although the whole enterprise is mired in corruption, Phelps keeps his dignity and continue to clean the city's drug trafficking, violence and corruption, things that plagued the City of Angels. |
With less than a month to go until this game, I'm curious to see how many other PALGNers are salivating at the mouth waiting for this.
26 days left as of today. I've got mine pre-ordered at GAME. Looks like Rockstar have another hit up their sleeves. _________________

Been watching some of the new "features" videos on Xbox Live. It looks amazing.
Hard to believe it's actually coming out.

EDIT - Apparently Fake
| Quote: | One of the first L.A Noire Reviews is finally upon us.
A lucky Gamefaqs user has gotten his hands on the newest issue of OXM UK which features a review for L.A Noire. Receiving a perfect 10/10 L.A Noire is set to be one of the top games this year. Check out the details from the review below.
+Very meaty, very lengthy (took them about 30 hours to finish the main story, and took them around 40ish to complete everything)
+Very cinematic, takes many cues from LA Confidential they said. Also according to the reviewer “A game that bridges cinema and the gaming universe.”
+Motion Scan is the highlight for them, and the feeling of actually being a detective. They said no game comes close to the experience that they had with L.A Noire.
+Great Narrative. In there opinion they said it has the dramatic, and cinematic storytelling of Heavy Rain, with the complexity of Metal Gear Solid, mixed with the length of Red Dead Redemption (but longer).
+Excellent pacing. At first you start somewhat slow, but you quickly rise within the ranks. Once you finish the 30 hour epic you become attatched with the world, the characters, the cases. Not many games have done that for him (said the reviewer).
-Gameplay is a bit clunky. If your fan of Red Dead, or GTA IV then the gameplay of LA Noire won’t feel out of place. That said, they were hoping for some advancement in this aspect.
Overall Score: 10/10
Closing comments;
“If you were expecting L.A Noire to be a reskinned GTA then you will be left severely disappointed. Many times we hear, “Who will be gaming’s Citizen Kane?”. Personally, I don’t have the gall to say L.A Noire is that type of game. But it is a game that will revolutionize the gaming industry as we know it. Never in my 20 year history of gaming have I encountered a game with as much finesse, intelligence, and attention to detail as L.A Noire, and for that I applaud L.A Noire. A game which has the nerve to do so much, in an industry where a seldom few are.”
Sounds like Rockstar games has another hit on their hands. L.A Noire is set to release May 17th in the United States and May 20th in the UK for Xbox 360 and PS3. |

I have read very little on the game, so i am very in the dark about it..... as a result i have escaped the anticipation for it. I would probably buy it on release, so as to not miss out while everyone else plays it. On the other hand i might hold off for a few months and get it towards the end of the year.

I love the fact the one thing that actually needed changing, the gameplay, hasn't ben touched. Even better knowing that reviewers don't actually care about how it plays, it's got the rockstar name so it gets 10.

I've held off starting any new games because they'd all be dumped for this next week.
I ordered from Game online, so I'll miss out on any street date shenanigans.

I have also read very little, but what I know is enough to make me anticipate it.
I'm going to love this game I'm sure. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

They mentioned in that 10/10 thing that if you've played GTA or RDR, you know how the game will handle. Quite frankly they were both pretty bad in their cover systems and movement (RDR wasn't AS bad, but it was still irritating). Not a lot had really been updated since the games on PS2.
All I'm saying is if this DIDN'T have Rockstar's name attached to it, and it was simply made by Team Bondi and published by someone else it would not have gotten 10/10, even if it was the exact same game (I'd probably guarantee that in that case the reviewer would reference it being a GTA clone).

oh shit really... fuck.
The handling in GTA 4 was what made me give up on the game. I was hoping since it was Team Bondi and not rockstar it would be... well good. _________________

I can't believe we're less than a week away from this. I haven't been this hyped for a game since GTA IV and Heavy Rain, especially since this has been kind of a disappointing year so far for games in my opinion. Dead Space 2 and Portal 2 were great, but other than that I've mostly just been playing Starcraft II online. Now all of a sudden we've got 2 (The Witcher II) lengthy genuine GotY contenders releasing in the space of 3 days! Its been tough not to take a peek at that 15 minute gameplay video thats been going around, but I'll be better off going in fresh. Also, hopefully PSN will be back up at least by the end of May so we can redeem the pre-order/PS3 exclusive cases. Friday can't come soon enough, though I suspect it might release on Thursday like RDR did. _________________

Preordered mine a month back @ EB, even got an exclusive t shirt and poster ( Game informer incentive )...so really happy with that...Also might preorder it @ JB if they are doing the trade 3 deal for it. Really really want the extra mission and soundtrack!!!... Though according to Kotaku the dlc would be out much sooner than of red dead redemption

The first genuine review was leaked accidently by The Guardian. It was quickly taken down, but good old Google has cached it for your reading pleasure.

My thoughts basically. Have said it before, but I don't watch movies and play games for the same reasons. I like there to be a clear divide. _________________

I was thinking the same thing, i know 360 is generally better at multi platform games but that looks terrible i really doubt its like that.
Looks like someone just added the gamertag thing to the 360 one and messed up the apparent ps3 version to make it look shit. _________________ Wanna go to space?
