The people of Youtube have, very accurately, compared it structurally to Pull Me Under. Someone even commented on the keys being similar. Now, with no Portnoy to add a bit of fire (and non-pedestrian drums) to the mix, it's sounding even less interesting than Octavarium. |
I was talking to someone about the new song, and I commented on the drums and how nothing really stood out for me. He said (not sure where he got this information) that Petrucci was the one that wrote the drums out for the album, and that Mangini didn't have any creative input on the music.
I don't know. All I'm hoping is that they come out and do another album like Scenes from a Memory and then all will be sweet! I'm still looking forward to it though. _________________

New Dream Theater isn't as terrible as that song I posted, but I still haven't made my mind up on it.
New Opeth is basically your typical Opeth album produced to sound like Rush.
And that's it for the bands most people would know about. Think I'll give the new Wolves In The Throne Room another listen now. _________________

I'de prefer if they just did a normal concert tour. I'm too old for festivals. _________________

So new Opeth sounds little like old Opeth and I can see why people wouldn't really like the new sound, but eh, I dig it. One of the reasons I like Opeth so much (and my other favourite bands) is that they tend to mix up their style from album to album. Diversity is good.
It's very different, but I'm digging it. Slither is the only song I'm not a big fan of, but everything else sounds great. _________________

Yeah, its an excellent climax to that song. I've had the album on repeat the last couple of days and I have to say I really, really like it. Slither is the only track I'm a bit eh on, otherwise I think the album is brilliantly composed and produced. Folklore and Häxprocess are probably my two top tracks. Lots of similarities to Damnation in those. _________________

**** me what the rest of the dates are. |
Just bought tickets for this, so did 14 of my crew. See you there!
Also BLIND GUARDIAN doing a signing in melbourne CBD 4-5pm Monday October 3rd @ Blasphemy on Elizabeth Street (21). See you there!
I will be at both shows in Melbourne too. Anyone suggest a reasonably priced drinking hole to prepare at? Staying near the venue (victoria hotel).

Ooh, that reminds me, I should be rich enough once I get paid to go to Blind Guardian. Assuming it isn't sold out. _________________
