GTS has always been like that. Much better off trading with people you've spoken to, even if it's on a forum or something. I've done a few trades over on GameFAQS, but you have to be careful because there are a lot of hacks around.
Although you're a good chance to receive a hack on GTS, too...

I don't experience disconnections, so I don't know why that would be.
Though I definitely see plenty of insane trades. I found it is easier to just put a pokemon up (baby starters are popular) and ask for something reasonable. You should get something within a few days, although I haven't been as successful as some of my friends who have completed about 20 trades already. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

Can't run, boom.
Walk all the way back to a healer.
Just a bit annoying is all, but I don't have the patience I had as a child. |
Once you get Fly things become easier with that. There are also some routes that have a house you can rest your pokemon at or an NPC that will heal your pokemon....some places I can think of are Pinwheel Forest (a woman there heals your pokemon), Route 4 (house you can heal your pokemon at) and Celestial Tower.
About the random encounters, if you want to avoid them, make sure that the pokemon in the first slot of the party is at a higher level than the pokemon on the route you are on and that you have a repel active. This will help reduce encounters. There is also a pokemon ability called Keen Eye which helps reduce encounters as well. Pretty sure there's an item you can get either a White or Black Flute if they exist in the gen 5 games.
EDIT: I'm experiencing the mass disconnects with the GTS as well. I'm pretty sure the servers are in Japan so the current events there are probably disrupting the connection to the server. _________________

Boy, is it late. But oh well ...
Okay, so, like, I'm totally excited here.
People play Pokemon for all different reasons, right? Trading, battling, because they're bored, because they love to dress up their Pokemon and force them into musicals? Well, for some insane reason, and a lot of people already know this to some extent, but I love to hunt for shiny Pokemon. I only have 15 so far, (That includes all my games, mind you!) and I find it makes random encountering a lot easier to cope with because I feel as if a shiny could appear at any moment.
So, in White, I've decided to work on my Pokedex from the very beginning, as in level up wild Pokemon whenever I find them to get their evolutions to appear in the dex, instead of just leveling up a team of six and beating the gyms and then worrying about hunting Pokemon. Anything to drag out the game, right?
Anyhoo, I was leveling up my Swadloon in the Desert Resort, but then decided I needed a change of scenery, so I went to Route 5 in the hope of getting some wild double battles in. Swadloon eventually evolved into Leavanny after another level, and then I decided I wanted her to level up once more. Halfway through the level, I got into a battle, and I happened to glance down and immediately notice a shiny Pokemon. It sparkled, and then I switched to my Watchog, Scout, to Super Fang it, Hypnosis it, and then catch it in a Pokeball.
Edit: I took a new photo this morning, but it's pretty bad, too ... I was just never meant to be a photographer, I suppose! Anyhoo, at least you can see something now. And I feel so sad that I'm so excited about a shiny Pokemon, but oh well!
So, long story short, I found a shiny Modest Solosis and named him Gooze.
...
So, here's the differences.
Normal Solosis:
Shiny Solosis:

And tomorrow I'll train him up and start working on trying to find another shiny tomorrow.
Also, I thought ... for those of you who are wondering what on earth a shiny Pokemon is, I found you some information, just in case you happen to run into your own.
| Bulbapedia wrote: | What are Shiny Pokemon?
A Shiny Pokémon is a specific Pokémon with different coloration to what is usual for its species. It is one of the many differences that a Pokémon can have within its species. The term "Shiny Pokémon" refers to the sparkling sound effect and animation made at the start of an encounter with one in the games; however, official sources have used the term Shiny. The term Shiny Pokémon was used in a game for the first time in Black and White.
Shiny Pokémon in the games may differ in color from their normal counterparts either very little or very much. Usually the former is the case, with some Pokémon, such as Glaceon or Pichu, having their Shiny form be only a few shades lighter or darker in color. However, many Pokémon will have a spectacular difference between their normal and Shiny variations; even extremely common Pokémon like Caterpie show a dramatic difference. An evolutionary line is not necessarily guaranteed to have similar alternate colorations, even if their standard colorations remain consistent; both Ponyta and Rapidash have orange flames, but an alternate colored Ponyta has blue flames, while an alternate colored Rapidash has gray flames. |

Damn, shiny Solosis is one of the better looking shinies out there.
The only shiny I've ever gotten was a Blue Unown when I hooked up the GBA player to the gamecube to play some pokemon Gold. :/
Oh well, I spose I might get one one day. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

Only shiny I've got in my entire Pokemon career (From Red until now) is a shiny Nincada in Pokemon Sapphire. Congrats Kyle! _________________

I snagged quite a few shinies back in the original G/S days, but the only one I've found since the new age started was this little guy way back in Sapphire (who has been migrated twice already, soon to be a third time).
Speaking of the little tyke, I remember reading that something was introduced into the games to kill EVs on a trained monster. I never checked IVs on my Shiny Mightyena, so I'd like to take advantage of such a process to eliminate his EVs gained and possibly re-train him. Could someone possibly enlighten me? _________________

Only issue is that at the moment the only way that you can receive and grow these berries in Black and White is in the Dream World, and because of the events in Japan the Dream World has been put on the back burners.
In other news, EV trained a Sigliph today to try and do something about all the fighting types that are running around now.
It's got Cosmic Power to boost both defences, and then it's got Stored Power. Stored Power is amazing with Cosmic Power - Stored Power's base power is dependant on how many boosts you have when you use it. So at +6 Defence and +6 Sp. Def it's gonna hurt. _________________

That's ok for now because I still have Mightyena in my Ranch, which is linked to my Diamond cart.
Edit: Now my bigger problem is almost all of Mightyena's available moves are **** unless I rebreed another one to get the various elemental fang attacks. This presents a dilemma... _________________

EDIT: Also got a few Level 1 Tepig if anyone needs one.

Wow I would absolutely love a Zorua egg, not too fussed if you hatch it, I just really love Zorua! _________________

GameInformer analysed some of the new pokemon, I thought I'd post a few highlights.
| Quote: | Victini is classified as a Victory Pokémon - apparently that's a category of Pokémon now. So there you go; I guess we can skip the other 30 Pokémon, because Victini apparently always wins. You're probably going to want to catch one of these things as fast you can - they're way better than creatures from the Defeat Pokémon category.
In case the name and category weren't enough to convince you of how great Victini is, its special ability is called Victory Star, and it also waves the victory sign whenever it gets the chance. Oh, its stupid head also makes a big "V" too. That's some unified character design right there. |
| Quote: | | I'm calling BS on Gothitelle right now - this isn't even a Pokémon, it just looks like an indignant girl in a dress. If I had that hairstyle, I'd be pretty annoyed too. Does Gothitelle even have a male version? If so, he's going to be more confused about his identity than that Twilight vampire... |
| Quote: | | The best thing I can say about Alomomola is that its nearly-unpronounceable name is a palindrome. That's not a good sign. Alomomola is a Caring Pokémon, which in a fighting tournament is about as helpful as a Pacifist Pokémon (I wouldn't be surprised if that's a real category too). Its abilities are Healer - which is helpful enough - and Hydration. Is that a problem in Pokémon games nowadays? Do you have to worry about your monsters becoming dehydrated? Something tells me that Basculin would wipe the sea floor with Alomomola, who would probably just say "Gee Basculin, that was really great how you kicked my ass just now. Here, have a cup of water." |

Congrats on the Shiny Kyle! My one and only shiny (that I found myself- I obtained a Shiny Eevee in a trade) was one of the first pokemon I saw in White- a Shiny Patrat! I wish I hadn't evolved him to Watchog, I like the Shiny Patrat design much better.

I just posrted this on GameFAQs but someone here might know the answer:
| Quote: | | I have 2 DS Systems and both Pokemon Black & White. I have my main game on White and I've been sending my White trainer over to the Black game to do Entralink missions. I've just noticed that the White level of my Entree is 6 while my Black is 11. This is where I am confused...I thought I had to go to a White copy of Pokemon to increase the White level or is there something else that is increasing the Entree White level? Another question I have is, what is the max level of the tree? |
I have no idea how my Entree White level has increased as I only have one copy of Black and White. Could it be from Black visiting my White game? Has anyone else experimented with this?
EDIT: I had found an answer to this. Each time you complete all 6 missions you gain 6 points in White if you are using a Black game and the opposite if you are using White. _________________

Sorry for the double post but I have info on the first Global Link event for Black and White. The current events in Japan are delaying the launch of the Global Link website but if you go to the official pokemon site, you can play a mini game that lets you download the pokemon you win through the Global Link when it is up.
| Quote: | Head to the Pokémon Fun Zone to befriend a Pokémon that you can meet via the Pokémon Global Link!
Play this game on Pokemon.com, and you'll be able to meet one of Eevee's seven evolutions in the Pokémon Dream World when the Pokémon Global Link website launches this spring! The Pokémon Global Link is an awesome new website connected to the Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version games for the Nintendo DS™. To get ready for the launch of the Pokémon Global Link, head to the Pokémon Fun Zone to play a fun new minigame, where you can befriend one of Eevee's evolutions! The Pokémon you befriend will appear when you visit the Pokémon Dream World, one of the amazing new features of the Pokémon Global Link. From there, you can receive that Pokémon in your copy of the Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version game!
Before playing this game, be sure to sign into your Pokémon Trainer Club account. After you complete the game, the Pokémon you befriend will be transferred to your account. When the Pokémon Global Link website launches this spring, the Pokémon you befriend will be waiting for you when you visit the Pokémon Dream World!

That befriend a Pokemon game was the most difficult thing I've done in my life. Holy crap. Took me a good 45 minutes.
For those playing at home, to get the Pokemon you want you need to try and make sure the majority of the little ball things that you collect are the colour/type for the Pokemon you want.
E.g. for Espeon, they'll be pink; for Leafeon, green. _________________
