I am effin cursing.

2 days ago, Origin started to 'install' something randomly for BF3.

No idea what, I thought it was an update at the time. Note: I had been playing BF3 all morning prior to this happening, and without a hitch since launch.

'lo and behold, after this mystery installation, I am getting the error EVERY time I try to launch a game, 'Game could not launch. Please check that it's installed correctly'.

DJ#$@3jke!

Customer support is useless, they had me delete all my registry entries, all the game folders for BF3, the whole lot, and then re-download and reinstall all...11.4...GB.

Fine. I did that yesterday.

Re-installed BF3....

...and exactly the same thing is happening.

I am completely stumped, no one seems to have had this problem on any of the forums I've looked at, and customer support is bamboozled.

The origin 'repair' function is utterly USELESS, it mustn't even look at checksums or anything that may help to find what files are actually corrupted and/or missing. It does a 40MB download, installs something, then spits out the same error.

I'm really at my wits end with Origin, and have gone from thinking it was all pretty nifty-looking, to resenting that crummy orange icon every time it taunts me on Startup.

Sigh! All that said, does anyone here have any suggestions that may assist?

Tried deleting Origin entirely? It sounds like it might be the platform itself being retarded and lacking proper registry entries to acknowledge that BF3 exists.

No idea how that happens though. Fucking stupid icon_confused.gif

I rarely see hackers in my games, if ever. In fact the only time I ever saw it was in beta. Rest assured that guy will probably get banned. Also don't be suprised by crazy ratios like 45-2. Its a battlefield game, you can stay alive for long stretches of time if you got a great squad or you utilise kits off the ground. Vehicles will permit for scores such as these, although 115-2 is pushing it so I would agree thats hacks right there lol.

Still a practically non-existant problem on my end. Don't give in to the prejudice, its silly.

Will give that a go next!

I'm concerned that maybe my download is screwing up, since origin needs to be babysat as it keeps randomly pausing during the download (frustrating in and of itself). Speaks volumes about Origin's ability to verify exactly what it has downloaded.

It's no Steam, that's for sure.

Definately not a booster, his kill counter was going up incredibly fast. Constant headshots with that 93R pistol.

I will admit this is the first ever time I came across a hacker, I just dont understand what they gain from doing it other than piss people off.

I'm kind of whacking myself over the head now, but this is how last night went:

1. Uninstalled Origin, deleting registry entries and whatnot.
2. Re-installed Origin (after redownloading).
3. Nada, dismay settled in.
4. Gloating at myself for my genious, I remember System Restore points!
5. I restored back to 7/11, before my issues...

6. The restore unmounted my C:, wiped my registry squeaky clean, programs wouldn't open, I was genuinely buggered.
7. I 'undid' my Restore. Thankfully, this returned things to normal and calmed my now skyrocketing blood pressure.
8. Off the cuff, I decided to delete the BF3 Browser Plugins.
9. Reinstalled them...
10. PROFIT!

After all those shenanigans, redownloading BF3, screwing around with Origin, uninstalling, reinstalling, editing registries, dipping my toes into the System Restore (never to go near it again)...it turns out it was the FRIEKING BROWSER PLUGIN.

As you can imagine, I was equally ropable and relieved...

...and then I dragged my sorry, sleep-deprived arse into work this morning after about 4 hours of sleep and many more hours of gleeful BF3 last night.

And Skyrim's coming in the mail today. Rofl.

Will surge again when Karkand releases next month.

Skyrim has stolen my attention currently, probably true of MW3 for some people too.

I'll be playing BF3 when there isn't a new blockbuster out every week.

My PC copy finally arrived yesterday and I spent the evening making myself comfortable.

Sooo much fun. I'm still partly in BC2 mode though and changing gears is hard. It took me a little by surprise just how much more a Battlefield game BF3 is compared to BC2.

I do have a few niggles though, mainly to do with Origin. What's with the ALWAYSONTOPALLTHETIME!!!!!! thing?

Random Battlefield fun fact; DICE and Nintendo were mighty chummy during the early GameCube years. So chummy in fact that DICE intended to release BF1942 exclusively (for consoles at least) on the GameCube. Nintendo were mighty keen on the idea too. Nail in the coffin? A non-existant online service.

A lesson they still haven't learned from.

Soo.... new patch is up. Here's a copypasta of the info:

Major client update for the PC version Battlefield 3 as well as a server-side update for all platforms.

The update will be made on Nov. 22nd 7:00 AM UTC / Nov. 21st 11:00 PM PST.

We’ll share release timing on the console patches as soon as we are clear on the timing, these take a bit longer due to console certification process.

---- Client-Side Changes:

-- Visuals, Stability and Performance Fixes:

• General performance and loading time improvements
• “Black Screen” fix for an issue occurring on some PC Configurations
• Stereo and Rendering Support for Nvidia and AMD Graphics Cards
• Adjusted the “stuttering” encountered on some PC configurations.

• Fixed multiple problems when using multiple monitors (Eyefinity / Surround).
• Fixed visual corruption issues on certain Nvidia Cards
• Improved loading times for certain textures

• Added back EOR sound for SQDM and TDM
• You should no longer be able to damage a friendly vehicle when sitting in an open position
• Grenades now drop to ground if you get killed while attempting to throw it(note the affect this will have on Hardcore mode!)
• Spawn protection now should work in Conquest. You should no longer spawn on points too close to enemies
• You should no longer spawn too close to enemies in TDM and SQDM
• Combat areas on Kharg Rush tweaked in order to disallow defenders to access the carrier ship after 1st base is taken and being able to enter the AA gun
• Fixed a problem with revived players not suffering suppression
• Fixed a problem with the camera when being revived in COOP
• Added joystick deadzone setting
• Fixed sound for when climbing ladders

• Fixed a swim sound loop error
• Increased the damage of Helicopter Miniguns, AA guns, and Jet Cannons against infantry

• Ability to share your Profile and Stats pages to Facebook, Google+, and Twitter
• User Profile and Stats pages on Battlelog can now be accessed without being signed in to Battlelog if you know a user's URL

-- A detailed look at Squad refinements

A detailed look at Squad refinements

Today's PC client patch features numerous tweaks to Squad functionality and is part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier to play with friends and Platoon mates. These changes will also be implemented for consoles when we release the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates shortly. Stay tuned for the exact date of the console updates.

First, we need to look at how joining with Squads and Platoons affects the balance of teams. Initially, servers are commanded to equal out each side, so joining with friends can impact that balance while joining with Platoons further hinders this. As a result we have made some adjustments to the in-game Squad management screen.

For PC, you are now able to highlight the various Squads and select which one you wish to join by selecting a Squad and then clicking the Join Squad button. Please note that the Squad Privacy option still allows 2 man Squads which, during 64 player sessions, can lead to players with no squad position –- the number of people with no Squads will be shown at the bottom of the Squad selection list.

I'm happy because every single time I play I get the black screen glitch, so this should hopefully fix things. Dunno why they increased AA damage on infantry, already seemed strong enough. Hopefully alot less people using the SCAR as well.

Well the update has made the game unplayable for me. It just keeps going on this download cycle. It has downloaded but whenever I click to launch the game, it says I still need to update it. I click update now and it shoots straight to 100%, click to play again and gives me the same prompt.

I have tried 'repairing' the install by right-clicking on the game in Origin, which stated it will repair and replace missing/corrupt files and re-download the new update, but I'm still in the same cycle. Don't know what to do.

EDIT: Went into Battlefield folder and deleted the 'UPDATE' folder, went back into Origin, right-clicked the game and repaired. It didn't download anything extra.

Click on game, says need to update, so I click update now. Straight to 100%, game says it still needs an update when I go to play. Nice juan Origin.

Why oh why dont they have more squad positions than players?

BF2 had 9 squads of 6 possible. So you can have 2 player squads and still had squads available for others. With there being 8 x 4 (32) if there is a private 2 or even 3 squad you have to play out of squad. Which reduces points and makes it likely the server will swap you to balance.

Just make more positions than players in 64 servers cause we all know that why people bought it on the PC.
