Smashed down the Queen and co-op grinded it too, got like 80k souls and hit like level 40 or something.
SOOO glad to be out of Blighttown. Depressing as hell place. Also, some amazing new stuff happened. _________________

lol im still trying to get out of blight town... the dart throwers + fire dogs = trying to prevent me from doing so =( I had a shot at ceaseless discharge as well, ie, grab the armour then get 1 hit KO'd. Couldn't even get to the position to beat it the cheap way as per IGN. _________________

Awesome armour though, I'm still cross-dressing in it.
I swear this game is getting exponentially more difficult. I got past all of the Taurus and Capra Demons only to get crushed by the boss, checked out the Undead Asylum and got crushed by the boss.
I'm level 49, I guess only having 15 points on both vitality and resistance doesn't help though haha.
I'm guessing New Londo Ruins is where I should be venturing, seems like the most manageable place. I'm still yet to find a bonfire though. :\

After blighttown I went over to New Londo and thoroughly lost it at the ghosts. Bastards can sneak up on you and ambush hardcore, and the place is difficult to maneuvre. So ended up going back down into Blighttown to take out Ceaseless Discharge and managed to nail it.
Left the rest of the demon ruins for later as it seems to be suited for much higher levels than 42-45, so went back through Blighttown and stumbled across The Great Hollow, a giant maze of tree branches and traps inside a gigantic tree. You can find this to the left of the poison lake bonfire where a lot of leeches are. Won't say exactly where as it's actually very cleverly hidden with illusions, but I did leave some messages on the ground that'd hopefully help. Leaving it at that for tonight.
Now wielding a Black Knight Halbred and Sword combined with a pretty good assortment of shields for different uses.
There still seems to be a f***load of places to see and conquer. Good God this game is dense. _________________

I'm still trying to build up the nerve to restore my Humanity! What benefits are there in doing so early on, vs. the risk of invasion?
Granted, I still haven't beaten the first boss at the Undead Bergh, and am only level 12 or so...but damn this game is all sorts of awesome. _________________

Humanity means summoning others to help you, including NPCs that you meet. It's a huge benefit in a lot of boss fights. It also gives you better drop rates for items etc. _________________

QFT. Since getting married this year, my gaming time has decreased dramatically also . So much so that I haven't had a chance to play this yet even though I've bought it already. _________________

She watched me playing it for about 30 minutes, said I died too much and I must've sucked and walked off.
Also, the hammering of the armour smith near the Undead Parish drove her nuts.

My girlfriend LOVES this game, she curls up with chocolate and a dooner every night and watches, mezmerised, for HOURS. Reckons its better than any horror movie (shes right) and has her at the edge of her seat.
Interestingly its the ONLY game she likes watching apart from Mario. Everything else has too much meaningless movement and is not interesting to her but she fully grasps whats going on in Dark Souls (she liked DS too).
She actually SCREAMED last night when I ran into that ghost that squeels at you..... scared me right out of my gaming throne. Last night though, she had to leave (too many deaths, and the ghosts really freak her out), the ghosts in that tower in new whatver its called, I got SO **** CLOSE and I was ****** cursed to boot (seems you dont need the cursed arm when cursed, whod have thunk it?).
**** I LOVE THIS GAME. Zelda is gonna have to be pretty special to top this and nothing else comes close! (*maybe xenoblade). _________________

^hahaha my gf is the same. She was watching me play earlier this past weekend and was downright creeped out by the Undead Parish let alone anything else.
Went down and traveled through the darkness of The Great Hollow which has got to be the most complex and eerie place I've ever come across. Vertical level design with Newts that can curse you twice as fast as the ones in the sewers. Thankfully had some curse-resistant armour to keep em from freezing me. Eventually got to the bottom to be one shot by giant walking Mushrooms with fists that hit harder than a truck. Also, baby mushrooms which look cute but when you kill them let off this eerie screeching echo which seriously gave me shivers. Really hard arse place, asks for a lot of vitality and good armour.
Once I got through there, ended up at a place called The Ash Lake, which is just a huge, flat ocean of black water and you can see towering trees in the horizon. Really mesmerising but also quite gloomy. And yeah after two or three shots of exploring the area, I retreated and gave up on it. Incredibly tough area with some nice treasures, but now's not the time as I simply don't have the strength I need to trounce it. Also, Hydras.
After this I took my chances with Sen's Fortress. Managed to get through the death maze which was both exhilirating and terrifying at the same time. Even the fucking treasure chest was trying to kill me.
Just made it to Anor Londo and what an amazing sight it was. So glad to have got out of Sen's, and it seems my earlier dabbling in Blighttown and the Demon Ruins helped me out greatly here.
This is quite easily my GOTY. I <3 you Witcher but this is unquestionably the best game this year. _________________

It's just everything that you actually already get in the collectors edition! Which is confusing and lame. Minus the mini strategy guide :S
-3 video features of 'behind the scenes' interview with Namco Bandai's producer. Which came on a DVD in the CE anyway
-The sound track, which also came with the CE... but in digital format (yay?)
-Mini strategy guide (which has a lot of detail but is limited, probably as a taste of the full strategy guide) and a map of the first area. Not that useful, but I guess it could be for people who haven't played Demon's Souls. _________________

How the hell are you all getting so far! I've only just managed to get up to some armoured pig that gives me a beat down every single time. Finding this much harder than Demons Souls, controls feel a bit more clunky and parrying is trickier too. _________________

tbh I put the disc in once and never again I think I'll finally get into it in a few weeks once summer holiday kicks in. Getting burnt out on SFIV.
On topic though, is it absolutely necessary to have a shield on hand in this? How effective are 2-handed weapons? _________________

You can do a real dirty on that pig due to those small ledges as just in front of you as you enter the area. Just stand on them and pelt them with magic/arrows or smack it once and then run up to the ledge and wait for it to patrol back. Repeat as necessary.
Being a mage is really starting to be a pain. Went back to the Asylum and vsed the secret boss there. While he is easy, he just has a truckload of health for someone who relies on spells to do damage and is at level 14. The remainder of the battle was me swinging my battle axe very cautiously, whittling away its health.
I'm also finding shields to be more used in Dark Souls than Demons. There are a lot of very narrow corridors and pathways, compared to the spacious areas that Demons Souls gives you.

haha, oh okay, fair enough. No worries dude! Let me know one day if you wanna play some BlazBlue.
About the necessity of a shield... I'm not 100% sure on this, but I would say it's pretty damn essential! Enemies attack you left and right, are relentless and in general don't 'F' around. Your shield is probably your best friend in this game.
EDIT: Saw my mistake and thought you meant how effective 'dual wielding' was... sorry! I'm not sure how effective 2-handed weapons are, I always feel like I need my shield to be up more. I guess they're good if you want to quickly beat down an enemy, sacrificing your defense... :S _________________

Hit level 63 tonight, grinding and adventuring in Ano Londor. Also conquered the Painted World Of Ariamis, which was fairly nightmarish for many reasons but JEEEZZZ did I score some loot.
Now wearing Havel's armour set and am 9 strength points off being able to wield the shield and the great dragonaxe thingy.
Also, I got invaded twice tonight and both times killed. Both of them stabbed me from behind while I was fighting.
Indicted both of them and tomorrow I will work on joining the Dark Moon Covenant to hunt these fucking black phantom PvPers down.
S**t just got real. _________________

the pig is easy though, he just does one charge where you run away from him then he breaks aggro after that and you can get a lot of free hits in.
100% physical damage reduction shields are essential. Spider shield is also important in blight town. I only switch to two hand briefly to inflict more damage on bosses while they are distracted then I switch back to shield. This game is crazy though. There are assassins who have their own backstab moves - jumping on you from behind and there are enemies in the early undead church who do the shield parry + instant gut stab move and one hit you. As soon as that happened to me for the first time I knew I took the game too lightly =p
So what covenant are people going to end up commiting to? The one which lets you invade the world of 'sinners' sounds sound because the game treats your invasion as a good thing instead of evil =p I want to join the sun one which Solaire is in but you need 50 faith or -5 for each boss you take down in co-op mode. I've helped 3 people so far so only need 35 faith now =D The lightning spear move sounds cool and is exclusive to that covenant. It sucks that you can only co-op and see orange messages from people of the same covenant as you though. Not a lot of chaos covenant players so I might switch back to way of white >_> _________________
