I-it's kinda really cute. I want one (although with my backlog I doubt I'll be getting one on release). Very glad to see they're replacing UMDs with a flash memory-based format, looking forward to quieter and less battery-hogging games with faster loading times >_>

Really impressive specs and features.

However, Sony really, really needs to get some original titles on this and not just handheld versions of the same PS3 games.

I know they're saying it's basically a handheld PS3, but we want original stuff that makes use of the touch screen, camera's etc.

I don't want to be too negative this early but if we simply get handheld versions of Uncharted, Killzone and ports of DS and iOS games it's going to be very disappointing.

Disappointed. All of these features are going to jack up the price, which means lower install base, which means less developer support.

Which means the consumer will end up paying extra for useless features (3G, OLED, a god damn GPS) while important features (a wide variety of good games) get sidelined. Again.

When will Sony learn?

Well colour me 'sneaky-digit-up-the-back-passage' surprised! I was fully expecting the PSP2 to a utterly off the mark, but that little beastie actually looks pretty neat! Touche, SONY.

Still gonna get 3DS instead, Nintendo has always kicked arse in the portable universe.

I'll staunchly oppose this console until they make an Uncharted game, at which point I'll have always supported it and damn anyone who says otherwise.

They're not advertising backwards compatibility, are they? So they don't have to do anything about them. People can play their UMDs on their PSPs.

So you want less features? 3g is hardly a usless feature. Looks to me sony have got it right this time. Online killzone on the go will be pure gold.

I go where Monster Hunter Portable goes!

Looks like I'll probably have to purchase that game again since Sony is changing media format.

LMAO.

This is a handheld the same way the iPad is a handheld.

Oh Sony, you kill me.

I'm not feeling the instant 'wow' factor. A better PSP with basically touch screens and the same games doesnt' really make me want to run out and blow $1k on it.

I was hoping they would keep the PSP Go design, I really didn't like the PSP original design.

But who am I kidding. I will ALWAYS end up cracking and buy the stupid machine on launch. I can't help myself.

They did say that any downloaded PSP game will be playable on the NGP.

I just read somewhere that the OLED screen consumes less power than LCD ones, which of course means longer battery life, which I believe is a good thing in a handheld (I'm looking at you, Nintendo.)

Hoping those thumbsticks can pop in or something, it's going to suck putting them in your pocket with the inevitable catching of the fabric on your pants. >_>

If those size comparisons are anything to go by you would want to have pretty big goddamn pockets icon_smile.gif

I don't think I need to buy this if I'm gonna "touch, grab, push and pull" something that is only 5 inches...

oh my! my apologies, where did that come from?

but seriously, I don't see this doing any better than the 3DS. But we'll see what develops further along the line.

Hardly. The NGP is almost as wide as an iPad (182mm vs 190mm), but nowhere near as tall. It's really not much bigger than a regular PSP. In any case, we don't even know if the design is final.

I'm pretty excited about this console, the hardware has heaps of potential, much more so than the 3DS. Enhanced ports of PS3 games is an interesting though, but we'll need to see some solid new games announced at E3 for this to be a good console at launch. That's one area where the 3DS has fallen a bit flat. The games on the NGP are going to look amazing.

It's enormous. O.O
Why does it need a touch screen on the back?
Regardless of it being an OLED screen i still see battery life being abysmal. Especially if companies try to push the software part.
The PSP barely fits in my pocket. This wont fit in my pocket. Not to mention the analogue sticks will catch easily.
I can't really consider this portable. It's too impractical.
If I ever do decide to buy this, it will only be the oldest model I can find at the cheapest price.

I see a repeat of PSP/DS and maybe the PSP2 does a little better because of dual analogues.

It's not exactly portable. They should call it a Playstation Mini, rather than Portable. It looks too big to carry around, so unless it's gonna have some original software, better off sticking with the PS3. Damn thing will probably be about the same price as a PS3 anyway. More if anything. 3DS could possibly put an end to Sony's attempts at capturing the handheld market. I can't see this succeeding, unfortunately.

Oh Adam, please don't take me so literally. The comparison to the iPad was a joke. The fact that the PSP-NGP is not very portable (and has a ridiculous name) is my point.

It's portable enough for me. My definition of portable doesn't require it to fit in my pocket. As I said, it's not that much bigger than a regular PSP, so I don't think people will complain too much.
